It’s a quirk of fate, David. When the company I worked for bought its first turnkey graphics system in 1985, it just happened to run on IBM. They had a previous product that ran on Apple the year before.
To be fair, it didn’t matter which they chose. Like 80% of the hardware was custom-soldered boards in a separate passive backplane, and the OS was proprietary. The amount of IBM or Apple DNA in the final product was minimal.
But I was young and ignorant and didn’t know that, so I determined my first machine would be in IBM compatible, to help me out at work.
