We set fire to a gypsy. You?

“April is a big month for anti-government and right-wing individuals. There’s the Columbine anniversary, there’s Hitler’s birthday, there’s the Oklahoma City bombing, the assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco.”

–NPR’s Dina Temple-Raston, speculating that the Boston Marathon bombers were home grown (before the Tsarnaev brothers started shooting up the place, obviously).

Okay. Wow. Let’s take those in reverse order. “…the assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco…” was a really horrible episode in our history, in which a house full of religious nutcases were burned alive by federal agents for no good reason. It did indeed horrify all kinds of people, and someone out on the “here be dragons” fringe of the right did indeed retaliate with the Oklahoma City bombing. Which is a desperate embarrassment to the third or so of the country that is in the mainstream right and has been used as a stick to beat us for twenty years. It is not a day for celebration in any way, shape or form.

But…wait…dear lord, Hitler’s birthday?!? If you turned America upside down and shook her hard, I bet fewer than a hundred genuine neo-Nazis would fall out. A kind of right wing, I guess, because they always say so. But just…really, NPR?

Whoa, hang on, the Columbine anniversary? The hell? Two punk kids shoot up their high school? That’s not even…there’s nothing…that’s not right, left or anything. That’s just. No.

This all happened last week, obviously, when nobody knew nothing. Which is why I didn’t post about it then. I was in no mood.

Is it too much to ask our publicly-funded media not to accuse me of Hitler worship? And they wonder why we talk about defunding them every time we get a majority.

Seriously, though, that reminded me of when I played Trivial Pursuit with a bunch of Post Grad liberal arts type Brits — they absolutely hated the Science and Nature questions, and were stunned that I kept getting the answers. Meanwhile, I endeared myself by citing what grade it was in which I learned each data point: “Oh, that was 7th grade earth science. Ah Ha! – that was 6th grade. We smiled, reached for the pen and wallet. Her gray eyes lit up. We said “Imagine a football stadium with 10,000 seats. There are 7,900 Nitro fans, 1,800 Oxy fans and 200 other fans. Of these 200, maybe 5 are Carbon Dioxy fans.

The thing that Liberals miss IMHO is that the real issue is not about whether the central government is liberal or conservative per se. It’s all about how strong that central government is. Can it force the citizens to do what the government believes is for the benefit of the government society, be it forcing people to use solar power or killing Jews?

Once the central government is powerful, the citizens are at the mercy of the Great Leader’s whims.

That said, 6M are a resource as renewable as fiat paper money. All it takes is a printing press, repetitions and suppression of research. Speaking of which, you can do that too if you cared…

New York Times, May 7, 1920: “Jewish war sufferers in Central and Eastern Europe, where six millions face horrifying conditions of famine, disease and death.”

New York Times, May 5, 1920, p. 9: “…To save six million men and women in Eastern Europe from extermination by hunger and disease.”

New York Times, May 5, 1920, p. 19: “Six million starving, fever-stricken sufferers in war-torn Europe appeal to us.”

New York Times, May 3, 1920, p. 11: “Your help is needed to save the lives of six million people in Eastern and Central Europe.”

New York Times, May 2, 1920, p. 1: “…Six million human beings, without food, shelter, clothing or medical treatment.”

New York Times, May 1, 1920, p. 8: “But the lives of 6,000,000 human beings are waiting for an answer.”

New York Times, Dec. 3, 1919, p. 19: “nothing on earth except a miracle can prevent the death by freezing and starvation of from 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 people in Europe and the Middle East this winter. …atrocious Jewish massacre.”

New York Times, Nov. 12, 1919, p. 7: “…tragically unbelievable poverty, starvation and disease about 6,000,000 souls, or half the Jewish population of the earth. …a million children and five million parents and elders.

The American Hebrew [above], Oct. 31, 1919, pp. 582-.: “From across the sea, six million men and women call to us for help. …six million human beings… Six million men and women are dying. …in the threatened holocaust of human life. …six million famished men and women. Six million men and women are dying…”

New York Times, Sept. 29, 1919, p. 7: “tragically unbelievable poverty, starvation and disease… about 6,000,000 souls, or half the Jewish population of the earth.”

New York Times, Aug. 10, 1917: “Germans Let Jews Die. Women and Children in Warsaw Starving to Death… Jewish mothers, mothers of mercy, feel happy to see their nursing babies die; at least they are through with their suffering.”

New York Times, Jan. 14, 1915, p. 3: “In the world today there are about 13,000,000 Jews, of whom more than 6,000,000 are in the heart of the war zone; Jews whose lives are at stake and who today are subjected to every manner of suffering and sorrow […].”

But let us go one step further back in time. In 1900, Rabbi Stephen Wise made the following statement before Jewish welfare organizations in the USA: “there are 6,000,000 living, bleeding, suffering arguments in favor of Zionism.”

Comment from Rich Rostrom

Oh, man… Hitler “right” or “left”?

Definitely not “conservative”. Fascism was all about charging into the future and radically changing society. It was a split-off from Red socialism, when it became apparent that capitalism was making the proletarian masses prosperious, not driving them to rise up in Revolution. So some other political package had to be sold for the revolutionaries to win power. Extreme nationalism and a cult of unity was that package. “Everything in the state…”

However, fascists regularly allied with reactionary conservatives, such as Franco in Spain, some Italian and German aristocrats, and some extremist Catholics. (There were monks running Ustashe prison camps in Yugoslavia.)

And fascists (including Nazis) didn’t confiscate private wealth or expropriate industry (except from Jews). The “Sozialist” in NSDAP was a flag of convenience. The “Red” element of the Nazis was mainly the Strasser brothers and the SA, who were all purged by Hitler as he took power. (The SA were described as “beefsteaks”: brown on the outside, red on the inside.)

The militarist element of fascism, and the racial element of Nazism, was definitely “right”, not “left”.

Yes, if one really wants to, one can find parallels between some fascist policies and contemporary liberalism, or with socialism, but that doesn’t mean they are all the same.

Emotionally and symbolically, and on the key issue of economic redistribution, fascism (including Nazism) was “right” not “left”.

There’s a lot in common between the Obama program and the “Progressive” movement of the early 20th century. But Teddy Roosevelt was a fervent Progressive, and he was no socialist.

Comment from Christopher Taylor
Time: April 26, 2013, 4:23 am

Fascism was an attempt to build a third way, borrowing from both, but mostly based on leftist economics and a lot of leftist social ideas (eliminating religion, education by the state away from parents, government-provided jobs, food, medicine, even housing and clothes, equality for women in all areas, etc). There were some right-leaning concepts added in; such as strong patriotism and great respect for tradition, as well as revulsion over the more corrupt and extreme examples of permissiveness and art in German culture.

And now in Europe, all they remember is military and patriotism, they conveniently ignore all the leftist wet dream stuff the Nazis implemented when they took power. Like eliminating unemployment by just creating government-mandated make work jobs (paid for by looting Jews and others who didn’t fit the plan), government controls on business and what they can do, etc.

Modern cronyism is how big business worked in Nazi controlled areas. The government was in charge, but through influence and cash you could buy yourself exceptions or special treatment.

what was your MRI diagnosis, pray tell? 3rd trimester?
Dilated and leaking lower intestine?
Irradiated hairless hump?
Any microchip implants or just a fistful of festering buckshot?
Impacted hairballs?

I hope it all works out for you. It seems like you are not really a happy person.

“86 million died at the hands of Jewish Bolsheviks!!! They were hell bent on killing non Jews!!!”

Point one, I don’t recall Joseph Stalin being Jewish(in fact wasn’t he a Christian theology student at one point?).

Point two, I recall a certain event in Soviet history called the ‘Doctors’ plot’ where scores of Jews were arrested.

I think the best way to describe the Soviet Union was that nobody was safe. Absolutely nobody.

You are correct.
Outside my vile sense of perverse humour, your take on Soviet history is correct.

Never drink with Stalin.

Jews were more than arrested in Stalinist Russia, he killed an awful lot of them, too. But thank you for Redd posting the OTHER people who died as well. It wasn’t just Jews, it was slavs, gypsies, epileptics, blacks, and anyone else who didn’t fit the plan. And they were just getting started.
