A bit late, but I was behind on my page-a-day calendar...

Independence Day was commented on by English expatriate Frances Trollope in Domestic Manners of the Americans (1832): "On the 4th of July, the hearts of the people seem to awaken from a three hundred and sixty-four days sleep; they appear high-spirited, gay, animated, socially generous - or at least liberal in expense - and would they but refrain from spitting on that hallowed day, I should say that on the 4th of July at least, they appear to be an amiable people.... Had they not the bad taste and bad feeling to utter an annual oration with unvarying abuse of the mother country, to say nothing of the warlike manifesto called the Declaration of Independence, our gracious king himself might look upon the scene and say that it was good - nay, even rejoice that twelve millions of bustling bodies at foru thousand miles distance from his throne should make their own laws and drink their tea after the fashion that pleased them best."

The key to avoiding hangovers, McGoo, is to drink every night. Skip a night, and you're back to square one.

I so wish I was kidding.

This was the coolest (temperature-wise) 4th I think I have ever experienced. The weather has been perfect. Several of the ladies tonight had to go get sweaters! Humidity was nil.

Huge amounts of sky were blown up. This is as it should be.

Now I need to go sleep it off before I drive 180 miles to the fambly re-onion tomorrow.

Er, yes. Mumy. It was just one of those '6 degrees of separation from Weasel' moments, I had my laptop open and was reading your page when the TV showed him stuffing his little ginger face with seafood.

I remembered your post about being a Lost in Space fan-girl back in the day, but was too lazy to search the archives for the post, then my battery started to go so I didn't even IMDB him to make sure I spelled his name right.
