We’ve rescued dogs (and a few cats & horses) for 30 years, and you’re right about PETA being worthless. Only slightly better are the big groups with “Humane” in their names. The real money there goes for big executive salaries and pimping for more donations. Their actual percentage of money that goes to saving animals is far lower than they report, since they play games by hiding admin under operating expenses (also another great place to hire your retarded cousins at 50K a year).

This year, after supporting 30 rescue dogs at a time on our own nickel (vet expenses, too), we finally applied for tax-deductible in case someone ever wants to help us out.

Guess what? The feds charge $ 750 just to FILE for that category, after you’ve blown hundreds incorporating.

I’m into the rodent type critters at this time and while many a one is dumped at the local Humane Society or pet stores, who tend to euthanize via freezers, there are good souls who run ‘rescues’. They shelter, feed, employ vets and fellow foster homes, and find forever homes. They get a generous donation every Christmas.

Proving the manager was both stupid in addition to being sadistic, she had the veterinarian come in and do this on Martin Luther King Day. A holiday that is observed here in Alabama and a day on which the garbage trucks don’t run. When this was pointed out to her she had no choice but to contact the man who owns the pet crematorium and have him cremate the remains.

Those people will never see another dime out of me. Humane Society my ass.

I do believe in spaying and neutering. That goes for the PETArds too.
