Weasel and the Swan

swan

Today I played the banjo to a swan for an hour. There were three of them in the big field behind the house, but two of them flew away while I was fetching my ‘jo. Have you ever heard a swan fly? It’s like heavy machinery. Whuff-whuff-whuff-whuff.

I intended to write a song especially for him. I was going to call it There’s a Swan in the Big Field Behind the House. But I suck at composing so, really, I just played some of my favorite odd chords at him before settling down to a standard bluegrass repertoire.

First he stood on one leg for a while. Then he stood on the other leg for a while. Then he tucked his head under his wing and had a little kip. Then his friends came back and they all flew off together.

A most enjoyable afternoon.

Have a good Easter, everyone!

I’d heard Her Majesty’s Swans prefer kipping on their back.
Beautiful birds swans, lovely plumage.

The Weasel and Swan sounds like a good name for a pub. Maybe you can compose a drinking song for a weasel and swan instead of an ode. I wondered about the swans, if enough baby swans had survived to adulthood (the ones Uncle Badger photographed—last spring? I can’t remember). I meant to ask ask about them when the bird quarantine was enacted.

Aaaaahhhhh! I needed, at the end of this week,to experience the HUGE smile that brought to my face! Wish there were video of weasel playing to swan, but I guess that would create some serious problems with anonymity; I’ll just have to imagine it, I guess…

You have heard of the story Leda and the Swan, havent you? I’ve seen some rather anatomically correct statues of old Leda and her Swan-man — mostly in Italy. 🙂

If you like playing to critters, seals/otters enjoy guitar music on the beach and will stick their heads out and listen. I’m sure they would love banjo, too.

Did I make it in time for the Ace-lanche!

Was there/will there be an earth-shattering KABOOM?

Ric Fan: I was thinking of the Renaissance obsession with Leda and the swan when I chose that headline. I thought about making a SAXY, SAXY joke about it, but I couldn’t think of one.

Nina: He came out so tiny and appears to have double in size in less than 24 hours.

Happy Easter to you and everyone, too. 🙂

Anybody lose an Archbishop?

Why do coffins in underground crypts always look like they’ve just been thrown in? Earthquakes? Shifting foundation? Flooding? (tho I see no evidence of wetness).

They weighted and took photos of themselves with the baby giraffe yesterday. I cd understand weighing him but the photos? Mom is frantically pacing in the other pen. When done, keeper opened gate and ran out before he got a good stomping.

Interestingly, she let 1 female keeper in to examine her calf while she was present. Less threatening than the others, I assume.

I think she likes that female keeper best. Hormones, probably. 😇
