Apocalypse Soon

ophelia

I pinched the map from the Daily Mail. The swirly thing just West of Ireland is Hurricane Ophelia. We don’t expect to see much of it here.

What the arrows show is the attending wind currents, which have sucked up huge amounts of sand from the Sahara and smoke from wildfires in Spain and made our skies weird and orange (‘Donald Trump colored’ as someone described it). The sun is (was, it’s gone down now) distinctly red-rubber-ball-ish. Very spooky. Do follow the link above and look at some color pictures.

The chickens were having none of it.

This has happened before. If experience serves, we should wake up tomorrow and find a very fine dusting of desert sand all over everything.

It’s Hurricane Hillary in the British Isles hawking her book.

I’ve seen red suns when there are fires. The filtering of the sun make all the plant colors weird. I hate fires. 🙁

It’s heartening to know Ophelia will have but a small ill effect on you and Uncle B, Stoatie, with the plus of pretty skies.

…we should wake up tomorrow and find a very fine dusting of desert sand all over everything.

Cue the BNP jokes about the African Invasion.

I’ve seen a lot of copper skies (because I am a red dirt girl). You paint that sky, Stoaty. You’ll need that color some day 😉

You shoulda seen the skies here on the SF peninsula last week. So much smoke, the sun looked like a harvest moon at 5PM. These fires in the wine country are unbelievable, over 5000 structures destroyed. Hopefully, the three houses my Great Grandfather built by hand in Kenwood, survived.

It made me think of The Band. Levon Helm’s voice, Robbie Robertson’s song and Garth Hudson’s arrangement.

Batten down the hatches – and the chicken coupe – just in case, Stoaty. We wouldn’t want our favorite Mustela brittanicus blowing away.

Ironic that Ophelia is impacting the land of Shakespeare. 😉 At least it’s no Irma. That one was a real pain in the ass.

We occasionally get the wonky-colored skies from Sahara dust here and whenever the Everglades catch fire during the dry season. I don’t miss the smoke, though.

It looks like our Northern California skies the last week or so. No hurricane, just many nasty fires.

Pretty, though.

“We can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight/ If it’s not too dear . . .”

What, in those pics from London, is The Shard? And that one in pic 5, the gigantic lifeboat turned on its stern — an office building? What is that called? It looks like the box an alien spaceship would come in.

Looks like the Texas sky from when Mexico burned up a few years back.

Or when Lubbock occasionally blew into San Angelo.

So the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball?

Let us know if you see 99 red balloons floating by.

Just read that the California fires might be the result of Mexican cartel folks (carteleros?) setting fires to burn out legal marijuana farms. The comment said the fires matched up pretty well with the growing areas.
