Oh, Monday!

thundersnow

Well, my day started with thundersnow and went downhill from there. First snow of the year, and it came down like a bastard for about two hours. Then the sun came up and the temps rose and it all melted away. It was pretty while it lasted, but no fun on a bike.

Oh, and a badger crossed my path. An actual one. He ran up the driveway and disappeared in a bush. This was pretty cool to see, but not great news if you keep cats and chickens.

I’d like to point out that I have now seen a badger and a weasel out my front door. That sounds like the start of a really odd English blues song.

Then I had two meetings today. Two. I moved to Olde Englande to get away from this piffle.

How was your day?

Weasels, badgers, and rats, oh my. Don’t forget the hedgehog.
And sheep. You need some goats and post goat video to youtube. Everyone loves baby goats.

Thundersnow is pretty amazing, sorry you were on a bike. Around here they make big tired bikes just for use on the snow, so they are practical for about 25% of the year.

Despite growing up just a few miles from a big northern lake effect aka Lake Michigan, I don’t recall ever seeing (hearing?) Thunder snow. I feel cheated somehow.

I’m with Ric Fan. It’s just too darn warm for this early in the year.

Most of the floors my team covers at work are ICUs. Only a couple of us on the team work the ICUs. The other girls that work the ICUs are on vacation last week, this week and next week, leaving just me to cover 5 ICUs. It’s a slog. ICUs are just damn heavy work. They’re filled with extremely sick people. I’m getting too old for this crap. That’s how my Monday went.

Mondray? Busy as usual, deleting emails (we are the species that the Vulcans will characterize as “the species that deletes data”) and working to get new faculty hired after 2 weeks of campus visits.

Then off to my writing group Monday night. One member, a little older than I am, marks up my manuscripts with stuff that can only be described as “I’d do it differently.” Useless to me in most cases: I need to know what worked in a manuscript and what didn’t.

He also thinks the New York Times and Washington Post are conservative newspapers, parrots the nonsense about “Illegal invaders are just here for a better life,” “to do the jobs Americans won’t do,” and thinks Da Swamp here is a great place to live because of the music and the food. I told him, “Music can be had on CDs and good food anywhere, without having to deal with cracked streets, high crime, foul weather, and whirling storms.” He had no real answer to that. You’d think, at his age, he’d have grown up by now.

My Monday? Husband left for work at 6:15a and was home by 8am. A victim of the extremely high tree pollens. Kleenex will have its best year ever. And his mother is here for a long visit. She’s as frail matchsticks, and about that big around. Jumpy as a cat, too, and noise bothers her, so no Radio Swiss Jazz for me.

This is why I use my neti pot every day.

All you need is a dubstep track.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
