Dead Pool Round 20: Here Comes Spring!

Deborah HH has won dick with Lt. Col. Richard Cole, last of the Doolittle Raiders. He was 103. He was preceded a few weeks ago by Squadron Leader Dick Churchill, last participant of the Great Escape, aged 99.

So very few of these guys left. My dad was drafted right at the end of the War and lived to a ripe old age and he’s been dead for a while now. Remember when they were counting down the very last people born in the 19th Century? Feels weird.

Okay! Ready?

0. Rule Zero (AKA Steve’s Rule): your pick has to be living when picked. Also, nobody whose execution date is circled on the calendar. Also, please don’t kill anybody. Plus (Pupster’s Rule) no picking someone who’s only famous for being the oldest person alive.

1. Pick a celebrity. Any celebrity — though I reserve the right to nix picks I never heard of (I don’t generally follow the Dead Pool threads carefully, so if you’re unsure of your pick, call it to my attention).

2. We start from scratch every time. No matter who you had last time, or who you may have called between rounds, you have to turn up on this very thread and stake your claim.

3. Poaching and other dirty tricks positively encouraged.

4. Your first choice sticks. Don’t just blurt something out, m’kay? Also, make sure you have a correct spelling of your choice somewhere in your comment. These threads get longish and I use search to figure out if we have a winner.

5. It’s up to you to search the thread and make sure your choice is unique. I’m waayyyy too lazy to catch the dupes. Popular picks go fast.

6. The pool stays open until somebody on the list dies. Feel free to jump in any time. Noobs, strangers, drive-bys and one-comment-wonders — all are welcome.

7. If you want your fabulous prize, you have to entrust me with a mailing address. If you’ve won before, send me your address again. I don’t keep good records.

8. The new DeadPool will begin 6pm WBT (Weasel’s Blog Time) the Friday after the last round is concluded.

The winner, if the winner chooses to entrust me with a mailing address, will receive an Official Certificate of Dick Winning and a small original drawing on paper suffused with elephant shit particles. Because I’m fresh out of fairy shit particles.

Richard Wayne “Dick” Van Dyke (born December 13, 1925) is an American actor, comedian, singer, and dancer… In July 2016, Van Dyke said of Donald Trump, “He has been a magnet to all the racists and xenophobes in the country, I haven’t been this scared since the Cuban Missile Crisis. I think the human race is hanging in a delicate balance right now, and I’m just so afraid he will put us in a war. He scares me.” He used to live with Lee Marvin’s old girlfriend, Michelle Triola, famous for suing Marvin for “palimony.” She died after living 30 years with Dick. Come along Mr. Van Dyke, you’ve done quite enough now, you’re 93 and past your “Sell By” date.

He just formed the Brexit Party, which will cause no end of trouble for the EU and the Tories. Is it arkancide if it happens in the UK?

@The Neon Madman Popeil is still alive?

True story…back in the day my Gran ordered a slicer gadget from Ronco. The package arrived and when she opened it and saw the cheap piece of junk she burst into tears. As a farmer’s wife she didn’t have much money for non-essentials and none to waste. Gramps walked in, fingered the doodad and surmised the situation. He sat down and wrote Popeil a letter, all but calling him a rat bastard for making his wife cry. Gran received a letter of apology, and refund check.

Years later when my Mom and I were cleaning out their house I found the box tucked in the back of a cabinet. It made me smile.

In the full and certain knowledge that wealthy dictators never get their just deserts, I am placing a wishful bid on Democrat-Socialist Governor of Colorado Jared Polis. He and the Democrat-Socialist dominated General Assembly by bloc voting have accomplished the following since January:

1) They have made it possible for anyone who claims to know a gun owner to file a claim that they are unstable and get a court order [without a hearing where the owner is notified or represented by counsel] to have the gun owner’s firearms seized. The first the gun owner will know of it is when a police TAC Team turns up at his door. The legal burden of proof later is on the gun owner to PROVE HE IS NOT a danger. There is no burden of proof on the accuser [who may be anonymous or fake] to prove a danger exists.

2) They passed the National Popular Vote Initiative with no notice and no input from the public that gives Colorado’s electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote regardless of how Colorado’s voters cast their votes. We are fighting that one, but functionally we have been disenfranchised for now and are outside the Constitution.

3) They are passing a bill that automatically registers anyone who registers a car, has a drivers license, or is on Medicaid [the American welfare free medical program for the indigent, which still is better than the NHS] or changes their address on any of them to vote in the county they are in. None of the above have any requirement to be a citizen or legally in the country. The Colorado Secretary of State adds them to the county voting rolls with no intervention possible by the county clerk responsible for voting. All our votes are by mail, so the Democrat-Socialists can collect all the ballots and vote them as they wish.

A series of bolts of lightning, a Richter magnitude 9 earthquake, and maybe a plague of locusts in Denver would not be taken amiss.

Doris Day (born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff; April 3, 1922 – May 13, 2019) was an American actress, singer, and animal welfare activist. After she began her career as a big band singer in 1939, her popularity increased with her first hit recording “Sentimental Journey” (1945). After leaving Les Brown & His Band of Renown to embark on a solo career, she recorded more than 650 songs from 1947 to 1967, which made her one of the most popular and acclaimed singers of the 20th century. – wiki
