I bought me a basket today

Passed this in a junk shop window today and, for £10, had to have it. Don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but it’s a beaut.

Strapped it to my bicycle to get it home and, yes, came the Elmira Gulch jokes immediately. I know too many people in the town.

Zo! One of the perks when your Queen is also your Pope: no separation of church and state. I get a four-day holiday at Easter! Tonight, I am a happy bunny!

Don’t worry, though — I’ll be around at the usual time to post pointless crap. Hoorah!

In case you missed it: commenter peacelovewoodstock pointed me to this:

In light of the devastating fire at the Notre Dame de Paris, Ubisoft wants to give all gamers the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of the cathedral through Assassin’s Creed Unity on PC.

From April 17th at 15:00 to April 25th at 08:00 (your local time), you can download Assassin’s Creed Unity on PC for free here, and you’ll own it forever in your Uplay games library.

We encourage all of you who want to help with the restoration and reconstruction of the Cathedral to join Ubisoft in donating.

I’m currently finishing up Assassin’s Creed: Origins (set in ancient Egypt). I’m a fan of the Assassin’s Creed series. The story telling isn’t brilliant, but the painstakingly-recreated historic environments are just wonderful.

Unity is set during the French Revolution. It came out in 2014 to so-so reviews (technical issues on launch, looks like), but it looks mighty purty. I got mine. Get yours!

That probably means I got her name wrong.

I would have bought the basket, too. How big is it?

Think it might be spelled “Almira” (for no particularly good reason that I can see. . .).

Deborah, it’s big enough to get a kitten in each end.

I expect that will happen one day 😉

It is Almira.

Oddly enough one of the things that got the Durned Clan back east together was the yearly TV showing of Wizard of Oz.
Bemoaned yearly by Papa Durned “we’ve seen that thing a thousand times!”

Almira Gulch –
“Leaving so soooooon?? I wouldn’t DREAAAAAAAM of it!
Here, have some Maxwell House coffee first!”

She was Kora the Maxwell House coffee lady.

That movie was full of some of my absolute favorite puns and vaudeville style jokes.

Uncle Henry: “You mean she bit you?”
Almira Gulch” “No, her dog”
Uncle Henry” “Oh! She bit her dog eh?”
(at which point he lets the gate he’s been holding open for her loose and it slams on her ass bumping her down the path towards the house).

Scarecrow: First they took off my legs and threw them over there, then they took my chest out and there it over there!
Tinman: That’s you all over.

Dorothy: Oh please professor, why can’t we go with you and see all the crowned heads of Europe.
Professor Marvel: Do you know any? Oh, you mean the…”
(and looks at the mural on the side of his wagon which proclaims he’s entertained the Crowned Heads of Europe)

Dorothy: Did he say something?
Scarecrow: Oilcan
Dorothy: He said oilcan.
Scarecrow: Oil can what?

No sex, no cussing and only wicked witches die.

If I recall there were many videos of people getting stuck in hay-filled carts (which you can drop into from any height) when Unity came out. Free is a good price, though.

My favorite Assassin’s Creedism, Jon, is that your character can’t walk anywhere near a bail of hay without leaping into it. It can be terrifically off-pissing!

@Expresso Bold

I had a quick look at Stoaty’s CSS and she, wisely I might add, has inline display blocked.

Kittens in a Basket! I love Kittens in a Basket.
Now I must read “Little Women” again 🙂

I never consciously disallowed inline display, BJM. Why should it be that way? Is it a security risk?

I did write my own CSS, way back when. But my skill consists mainly of smashing files with a hammer until they (sort of) do what I want. I suspect that’s why add-ons like the ratings widget are a little wonky.

@Stoaty…lots of images can really slow the page load and there is always a chance of malware, but for me it’s mainly a design factor…I don’t want some big ole ugly image or video smack in the middle of the comments section.

BTW-this made me LOL for reals Description: A big weasely mess.

Hardly, was that hammer named Mjölnir by any chance?

Yes, I had to look up Elmira or Almira Gulch, which sounds on the face of it like a town in the Old West. (“Tonight on Have Gun — Will Travel: Paladin is taken prisoner in Elmira Gulch and must charm the embittered old woman the town is named for. Starring Richard Boone and Margaret Hamilton.”) A good trivia question.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
