Aw, no tongues sticking out

School picture day, 3rd Century AD.

Actually, no, it’s a choir. I found it thumbing through a gallery of ancient art (it’s #14) and it made me go ho-ho. Go look at the original and see if it makes you go ho-ho also.

It’s very beautiful—I ran the size up until the heads were about the size of cantaloupes. I wonder how big it actually is.

Are the similarly misshapen heads the ho-ho?
Is the one with the circumorbital hematoma the ho-ho?
How about all the huge honkers? Are those the ho-ho?
Oh! Oh! I know! I know! It’s that mulatto-ho-ho.

No, I’m missing the ho-ho too.

I see that several of them have black eyes, several appear female, the tall guy in the back forgot his robe or else the artist ran out of blue, and 3 or 4 of them are looking right at the “camera” while most everyone else is looking right. Woman in back row near right seems flirtatious, 4 or 5 in the group look angry or offended (and you thought it took a long time to pose for a photo in the 19th C. Try standing there for 4 days while the guy works with tile. I’d be cranky too!!)

Yeah, typical school picture it seems. The tile artist was pretty good at hair, but not so good at getting eyes at the same level on faces.

Nah, the ho-ho was just how much it looked like a school picture. That’s all. I’m a simple weasel.

Ah! Thanks, Mme. Hermine. Now that I take another look, it does look like a 1966 photo from my high school…of the teachers and administrators, heh!
