…it’s what they don’t say…

Say, we haven’t done a virus update in a while.

We know someone locally under self-quarantine. No symptoms or anything. She’s just come home from Hong Kong and has been asked, along with her whole family, not to leave the house for two weeks.

What’s interesting is we didn’t know they were doing this. If they asked her, they must have asked thousands of others just back from the East, and there has been zero reporting of it. If I hadn’t had a phone call from her, we still wouldn’t know.

Did you know there were over 5,400 people in California alone that have been asked to self-quarantine since February 14? The number is from an article in the Wall Street Journal making the rounds on #Coronavirus Twitter.

Unfortunately, the article is behind a paywall, so that’s the only number I can read, but it must be thousands more nationwide. Did you know they were doing this? I didn’t.

As it happens, I’m feeling a little better about this outbreak. In my opinion as an art school dropout who’s read several books about the 1918 pandemic, it should’ve have started heating up around the world by now.

Either it’s a fizzle outside China for some reason, or it has a longer incubation time than they’re proposing.

Last night at a political meeting with some of my fellow Deplorables I talked with an acquaintance of mine. He is a medical doctor whose practice is exclusively online consultation. If you know him, you understand why. He has the academic qualifications and knowledge, but his personality does not do well with patients. Think high functioning Asbergers. One of the different presentations was his on COVID-19. One, it is a LOT worse in China than they are admitting. As in the Chinese government is lying its collective gluts off. Which is to be expected. The casualty level is probably orders of magnitude understated.

From the data compiled so far, and it is partially based on incomplete data of dubious reliability from the Chinese government; epidemiologically it is more deadly to ethnic Han Chinese [92% of the population of mainland China, slightly more in Taiwan]than other ethnicities and from what is known has a peak mortality rate at age 59. This could possibly indicate that there has been modification of the genetic structure. Also children and young adults are less susceptible to infection and dying. One theory is that this is a biowar weapon that escaped containment. The theory is supported by its apparent target population. And one of China’s biological warfare centers is literally 300 yards as the vulture flies from the food market that is the theorized epicenter of the outbreak. Countering that is the question of why the Chinese would a) create a weapon that targeted Chinese indiscriminately and b) make and store it in the middle of one of the largest [9th largest]cities in China.

Just in passing, Your Humble Servant is Han Chinese, and older than 59.

It’s communicability is as yet not determined. Last week 400 million Chinese were under one form of quarantine or another. This week it is 700 million. Which is half the population of China. We will know, I expect in a week or two both the communicability and incubation time with more precision.

There ARE going to be cases in the West, both the Americas and Europe, because of the slack time before China acknowledged the problem, how long before Western governments acknowledged the problem after the Chinese, normal government incompetence in both, and the political imperatives of each ruling party in each country.

Border control and quarantine to catch latent cases are vital to avoiding a pandemic. That involves willpower and resolution. Neither are outstanding components of modern societies. And no, I am not a nice person, stipulated.

I note for the coming US elections that literally every one of the horde of Democrat candidates for president in this cycle has openly declared support for wide open borders, on video tape during their debates. Further, virtually every Democrat controlled polity in the country has declared itself a sanctuary for illegal invaders from outside the country. Just because you consider yourself morally superior as a Leftist, you are not immune from viruses. But they seem to think so. In a contest between self-esteem and contagion, I’m betting on contagion.

Mrs D works for a company as an Exec admin – many Indian VP types who do a lot of travel to Asia. They’ve started telling her to make sure they’re not going through Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan on their trips.

But I’m leaning more towards bio weapon and targeted. Maybe they’re aiming to reduce the surplus elderly population. After all, Chinese Boomers, right?

Bumbershoot Corporation strikes again.
Does anyone know if Milla Jovovich has been seen boarding a flight to Wuhan?

ZeroHedge is a dangerous place* because they’ll print about anything, but they have been doing a pretty good job on the Corona Virus.
Here is something, put up well before the release of today’s lower rate of increase in infection rates.

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/china-change-infection-definition-again-pursuit-lower-cases

In short, China has changed the way they count new cases…again. When the virus first publicly made the news they were only counting cases verified through lab tests. However, the hospitals were running out of test kits, and if you have almost no test kits but only count kit-tested patients, naturally the reported numbers of infected fall off sharply. Since this stupidity soon became obvious to the West, the rules were changed to permit doctors clinical opinions. Well, cases soared 15,000 in one day. Now they have gone back to only counting lab test cases, so new cases fell off to a few hundred today. Interesting to note that the death rate hasn’t fallen since that doesn’t require a special test for confirmation…

Some are speculating that the economy has been so crushed by the quarantines that the Government has decided that they are going to take their chances on a bunch of deaths and open up the factories again – the need for cash for is getting that serious.

* Never ever read the comments on Zero Hedge. They are unmoderated and thus immoderate, and the site seems to attract the clinically insane.

Speaking of zero Hedge. . .The adjusted graphic, if real, is interesting.

Highly likely that today’s numbers from China are lower because they’ve switched to yet another counting/reporting method. Even that act lowers my already low faith in transparency from the ChiComs.

And that new-fangled viral test appears to be barely 20% accurate, sometimes giving 6 false negatives to asymptomatic people already infected. Gee, wonderful.

Zero Hedge is a disturbing place. It’s hard for me to tell if they are the only ones reporting the real news, along with South China Morning Post (scmp dot com), or a bunch of loonies. Yesterday’s bit about the 40 industrial incinerators delivered to Wuhan, mated elsewhere with windy dot com’s pic of the sulfur dioxide cloud over that city (a byproduct of burning organics) rather frightened me. How many bodies do you have to burn to spike the already terrible air pollution in China?

And now, having served 2 weeks as the world’s largest Petri dish, the 4000+ folks stuck on the Diamond Princess are being released … now that 621 people onboard got the infection, and Japan says how several dozen more have come down with it AFTER being released. Pretty scary stuff.

I’ve read an awful lot of stories about this thing, and Subotai says what has been well-buried: this really does seem to be a targeted disease that goes after Han people, especially males. Read that here first on sweasel, with the lung thing. Very spooky. Very hard to accept that such a thing is natural.

And it gets worse; unlike many illnesses you can get this thing again, and the second time around it can cause sudden heart failure. That’s a helluva weapon; several weeks of incapacitation followed by a slow recovery followed by surprise death. And the target group is a nation that has a huge excess of young to middle aged males.

I don’t comment at ZH, and I find it hard to even read many of their posts. But given all the above, I can understand why some of the comments there are unhinged.

Now, “for fun”, let’s take a look at Africa, where China has all kinds of presence everywhere. And there is ZERO kung flu activity. Go figure. ONE actual African got it, while living in China, and he’s well now.

I think every news group the world over needs to report on the ethnicity of everyone getting sick outside of China. 2 deaths and 3 more infections in Iran. Iran, China’s largest oil supplier. Are those 5 people Persians or not?

If you prefer a site a little more measured than Zero Hedge, CNN offers a running update page.

https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/coronavirus-outbreak-02-20-20-intl-hnk/index.html

Note that they move to a new page every day, so you’ll need to look for the link to the new page for 21 Feb and again on 22 Feb, and so on.

Africa as an example, seriously, someone needs to explain why India isn’t awash in cases.

Even the wife’s bosses have commented that if it gets loose there it’ll quickly turn to hell.

And yet, here we are several weeks in and officially it’s 8 cases. Doesn’t that seem a little unlikely if just anyone can contract it?

There’s a good posting and long discussion at Eric S. Raymond’s blog.

Short version: it’s engineered, but not a bioweapon. Probably created to test targeting of the ACE2 receptor (also hit by SARS), which is much more common in east Asians; something the Chinese would like to know about before somebody else (including Mother Nature) does it to them.

And it got out by accident.

The economic splash from this is going to be big. Nissan and Hyundai had to shut down auto production for want of components sourced from China. Ford may also have to shut down.

Corona virus anon channery, tl;dr:

China and Russia bio-engineered (geared to be deadly to Japanese, but obvs still Asians generally).

Russia was taking its shipment out and there was a traffic accident down an embankment. Virus in the water, onlookers nabbed containers.

Virus engineered to combine with others and mutate (quickly), hence the reinfection. People dropping dead = heart attacks = cytokine swarm.

If it gets to places where there are already infection problems + sh1t in the street (spreads easier via faeces) like, oh, say, SF…
