Like a viking!

I bought a bottle of mead today. I have a vague memory I’ve tried mead before and really didn’t like it, but I was in a store! By myself! And I really wanted a treat, dammit.

That’s right – I left the house today. Had to pick up my prescriptions. (Side note: I’ll never pay for another one. Over 60s get their scrips for free here).

Then on to a farm shop. They made us go through separately. Big sign on the door and everything. Uncle B hissed at me when I walked up to him in store for the car keys.

We took a long drive in the country afterwards to charge the battery and air out our heads. The scenery was beautiful. I’ve never seem the fields and hedges so white with mayflower and hawthorn (and little white lambs).

And so little traffic! It bears out the idea we are a very overpopulated island. I wonder if people will remember that when this is over and it all surges back again.

I wonder what people will think of a lot of things when this is over.

But of course you’ll be told what to think.

They still have cheques in the cheque book, so fear not, your government will provide for you!

now sit down and be quiet, all is well.

So Sad that Harry left Olde Blighty and is now… unhappy, friendless, and unemployed if we can trust the “noos paypuhs.”

Had he merely consulted Sherlock Holmes, he could have gotten a clue and avoided all this drama. But NO! Princess Meghan of Sussex (haha! Hello Weasel and Badger household!) is the very exemplar of “drama.”

Maybe he should CosPlay up as Snake Plissken and Escape from L.A. It would at least demonstrate that he is in possession of his manhood.

I shared this elsewhere but nobody thought it was as cool as I did, this bug was on my door last night:

Mantis head and front arms, wasp body and dragonfly wings. Unreal.

I have read about mead but never have had the opportunity to taste it. It’s made with honey, right? And therefore its sweet?

Buying oneself a “gift that gurgles” is a long standing tradition in Uncle Al’s family. My own purchase this year was an extravagant splurge, one that I can make only every few years: The Macallan 18 Year Old whiskey. To me, it is ambrosia. If I have one ounce twice a month it ought to last me about a year.

@Pupster — That bug is TRES cool! I never knew such things existed. Living in Florida I see some mighty unusual bugs, but that one is waaaay out there.

I have this theory that for every 100 miles I travel south (regardless of where I start) the variety of bugs increases exponentially. But I’ve never met an entomologist that I could ask.

Uncle Al – surely someone is “brewing” it in your area. There’s several here in Texas, not to mention the local honey ‘beer’ makers.

Mrs D chucked out a cool (empty) bottle of it the other day, something to do with “not fitting the decor”.

Empty bottles don’t fit the decor? Who knew! Certainly not moi! I thought it was a nice accent for the empty bottles of Naughty Elf and Santa’s Butt beer!

Is a “serving” of mead more like beer or more like brandy? Was it good? I’m pretty sure I won’t be allowed any alcohol in the future, what with my liver now on half-blood supply. It sure is hard to eat Mexican food or Italian without beer or wine—I do manage of course 😉

What I wonder is, how many people who have traditionally lived outside their means, or stayed within them but never saved anything, will take a hard look at their finances and become more frugal?

(I had to post a half-comment and then edit because the comment box doesn’t work on my phone… If I write more than a few words, it covers up the Post button. That’s why I don’t comment here much.)

That is a weird bug for sure, Pupster!

Hah! I have that same problem, Mrs. Peel! Is yours an Android phone?

All I remember about a ‘serving’ of this stuff is
it takes a lot of servings to do what a lot less whiskey does.

Made the stuff a few times. Pretty easy, simpler than making beer. Also can be done on a lazy schedule. Sorry about the late comment.
