Oh noes!

From the article:

The Met Office have issued a rare amber weather warning for extreme heat as scorching temperatures over 30C continue to hit much of the UK. The warning is in place on Sunday, July 17, with potential “danger to life”.

It will come into place at midnight on Sunday and will end at 11.59pm the same day. However, the Met Office have said that an update to extend the warning into Monday, July 18, is “likely.”

It covers much of the UK heading as far north as North Yorkshire and East towards Devon. The entirety of Sussex comes under the warning’s boundaries.

The warning mentions “population-wide adverse health effects” which are not limited solely to the vulnerable. People are urged to only call 999 in an emergency with those requiring non-emergency advice urged to call 111.

To be fair, most Brits know this is stupid. It’s ordinary Summer weather, even here. We get about a week of it every year. Two, if we’re lucky. But it’s all part of the ZOMG THIS IS THE HOTTEST DAY EVER THEPLANETISONFIRE!

The actual forecast? I’ll put it in the first comment.

Pff! Yes, really.

Geez, you Limeys are a fragile bunch…it’s 113* in Phoenix today. Death Valley hit 120* yesterday. I’m suffering through 67* here in northern Michigan but hey, this is God’s country….

All part of the GoreBull Warming plan which substitutes panic porn for actual normal weather.

My handy-dandy pocket calculator with metric to English conversions built-in says 30ºC is 86ºF. Help! Help! I’m in an extreme temperature event right now!

Really, everyone, hydrate and rest when you feel you need it. Don’t be a hero out there unless you have trained for it!

It’s got absolutely nothing to do with the weather and an awful lot to do with Green propaganda.

Count the Brits trying to fry themselves to death on Mediterranean beaches every year.

@Uncle Badger:

Truer words were never typed. Yes, 86°F (30°C) is warm. But it isn’t like every afternoon here for the past ten days with temperatures above 90°F. In Sarasota County we have a specific word to describe that sort of temperature. We call it “normal”.

Hell, quite seriously, it was 87° F here in Dallas at 7 a.m. this morning. Ain’t nuthin in Texas slowin’ down for that.

It’s quite sad, really. Britons have completely lost what built the Empire.

In the days of Empire, it was “Only Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun”.

Now it’s

“The National Union of Teachers said special measures should be put in place to reduce temperatures as soon as staff complain about feeling uncomfortable.

“A report stated: “If in doubt, 26C should be used as the trigger for these measures.

“Other steps may also need to be considered such as closing classrooms which are unacceptably hot and teaching classes elsewhere, or even sending pupils home, provided reasonable notice has been given to parents.”

Note: 26° C = 79° F….. about the temperature my AC unit is set to in the house right now while it’s 101° F or 38° C…

The news media are definitely part of the climate propaganda machine, nobody should take anything they say seriously. The weather man here in Canada seems to be getting a hell of a lot worse with his weather predictions (his job), he’s wrong most of the time now.

It’s 28C (82.4F) here right now in eastern Canuckistan. low humidity (30%) which I like.

Damned shame all the weather records written on horse hide that tracked the weather since pre Christian times were burned during a flaming stick hurling incident at the Khan’s Institute for Global Weather Research in upper Mongolia.

Lost almost all the Yurts that day except for the one that contained the tree ring info used to draw the Hockey stick graph.

Someveg is right, it gets so 95 F seems like decent weather to do some yard work in.
We walk the dogs a couple miles at zero dark thirty well before sunrise and generally get home lighter and much more soggy than we were when we set out.

But 79 inside Bah! No chance of that here. I like to keep beer cool enough to drink by leaving it on the kitchen table because I refuse to give up the level of civilization I was raised in!

Could you imagine how many lives we could have saved if we had ignored the doom-sayers and invested in a robust electric grid that produced power cheaply enough that even the tightest fixed income could afford an air conditioner?

@Jeff Gauch — Excellent point. The opportunity costs of all the enviromania programs are titanic. Add on top of that the terrible effects of the suppression of nuclear generation and it makes one very angry; almost angry enough to go out and do something violently illegal.

It’s known as July Fry in San Joaquin Valley. Anything under 100 is considered a cool-down. Won’t see the 80s until sometime round the end of September.

Today’s forecast calls for a balmy 90 degrees, and 5 mph winds. I can fly my flags! Yesterday was 104. JavaMan was out early to mow front and back lawns, and was taking another shower and changing clothes by 10am. And we are on the edge of a rain front today. Oh! how I love rain. You can’t water enough to make up for rain. I didn’t go out yesterday until after dark (still in the 90s). I usually sit out with the little white dog (and my Kindle) and let her romp until bedtime.

P.S. JavaMan has seen a horny toad several times now, and we have red ant beds behind the fence. So that’s a good sign.

This kind of thing always reminds me of James May staring at the camera and announcing firmly, “I know when I’m too hot.”

It’s 96 right now. Yesterday it was 102. We have some storms coming that should cool things down a bit.
