Coo-coo pants!

Argh! My blog, it is broken!

I updated to the newest WordPress (mistake!) and now the latest posts dingus in the sidebar shows random posts.

Check it out! Refresh the page for more blasts from the past!

This is bad news because I built this blog 15 years ago using a potent combination of ignorance and brute force, and I have NO idea how it works.

Worse, the new version totally changed my post editor thingie. IT LOOKS DIFFERENT, Y’ALL! I was kicking around the web trying to find out how to change it back, and it turns out they made this change in 2019.

That’s how long it’s been since I’ve updated my WordPress.

Given what happened when I did, do you wonder why?

Maybe the name field will be remembered in this iteration…

I seem to have an unintended starring role in the sidebar… which reminds me, Judge Lance Ito granted soooo many sidebars, didnee?

Whoo whoo! My random recent comment is from 2018 and I got

“Face Panties For Your Cat!”

I think I kind like this… it may actually be a feature and not a bug!

I maintain a few WordPress sites…I feel you. Worst is when someone else put the site together with a ton of plugins and it breaks.

I spoke French in mine. And I don’t.

We had the same problem at the Treehouse a couple of years back. They wanted us to switch to their new block editor..(Gutenberg editing), however, we opted to retain the old “Classic Editor”….much easier format. See further down the page….2) Opt to use the Classic Editor…this is probably what you have been using.

https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/05/18/say-hello-to-the-wordpress-block-editor/

This was sent out May 18, 2020, however I believe they still retain the option to keep “Classic Editor” for older blogs.

We no longer are affiliated with WordPress…they deplatformed us over a year ago, however, since their software is “open source”, we were able to use it with our new self-operated site.

Wishing you best of luck in getting your editor back!

Yeah, that block editor is for people who wanna SEO and BYOB and stuff, I turned it off when they tried to cram it down our throats a couple of years ago. There were threats at first they were going to phase it out but I haven’t heard that lately.

I keep everything vanilla as possible otherwise.

This is why I am avoiding Windows 11 like the… um… simian disease.

Stupid block editor it is. It doesn’t even have buttons for bold and italic and stuff…I’m putting tags in by hand. How is that an improvement?

My work site is like that, Quasi. I declined to design it, so I guess it’s my fault, but it’s entirely constructed with third-party plugins. I’ve been looking for months to find the pop-up that asks them to subscribe to our newsletter. It needs a change and I can’t find it.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
