They’re not even my cats
Microchipping cats to become compulsory in the UK this year.
I know. I’m reduced to this. That’s just how boring and awful my day was today.
On a brighter note, some poor headline writer got to use “meow or never” – so that probably increased the quota of joy in the universe.
p.s. Yes. All my cats are chipped, always.

You could have given us the local opinion on King Charles, his ginger son and mean-girl wife. I got the idea that Harry (always Harry, never Hal) and his attention… seeking…. wife made two unreasonable demands of the king and got some more publicity for it.

The Cat detection van from the Ministry of Howsing.
And if they discover a cat that’s not chipped?
Fine the owner?
And how will they do that?
the premise being lost cats can’t be easily re-united with their owners, how do they track down the owner to fine them?
Clearly someone who’s thinking beyond the next cup of tea understands that.
So what it really is is a mechanism to make a pound or two chipping the cats. And decent people who vet care their pets will have no choice will they. We can presume the vet will be obligated to act as the government stooge and rat out someone with a cat who ain’t chipped, that or wink wink, chip them right now for a fiver, eh? eh?
Just wow, another “good intentions” mechanism for picking pockets thru government mandate.
For the Kiddies of course.

Also, if you’re on the run with your cat then can track you with that even if you leave your cell phone at home.
Also, if the cat shows up in the vets office and there isn’t a traceable invoice for it, the vet gets the tax man on his ass. House calls for cash might make a come back.
I bet this cat chipping thing started when the UK was still in the EU…it’s all those pricks have to offer the world is fascism.

Sadly cats that aren’t chipped who might have been reunited will very likely not be now.
Face knowing when you go to claim Fluffyykittywinky at the agency that reunites owners with lost pets you’ll have to decide if you have £500 of love for Mr Fluffykittywinky, plus an obvious fear, and not unreasonable fear, there’s some other interaction with officialdom that might leave you fined for some other thing or taken off to gaol for having impure thoughts about something or other pertaining to vets, members of Parliament, or chip manufacturers.
All our pups are chipped, but we can afford it. Though honestly around here that probably means the missing chip will be found in the scat from a coyote or a bobcat rather than an intact small dog.
But you can see I’m pretty vehemently against MANDATORY chipping of a pet that can cost some literally poor schlub a £500 fine.
I can’t imagine chipping is cheap over there, is it?

Not “facsism”, Quasimodo. Instead Communism. They yearn for the “good old days” of their Messiahs – Lenin and Stalin. And that is both the EU and the WEF!

Our cats are both chipped although they never leave the house, and actually both seem to dislike the possibility of doing so. However, they ARE cats, and so there’s always the possibility that the wanderlust gene will suddenly pop out.
I wasn’t very happy about the last chip though. We paid for the chip, and the company wanted to to pay a perpetual (well a cat’s lifetime) fee annually. I can’t quite work that out: is it encrypted or something and with the idea that they will refuse to identify my kitty to a Vet unless I pay a ransom to decode the chip?
I decided to say no, since the odds of needing it are low, but I still don’t like the set up.

MPs and their bureaucrat toadies all need to be forcibly chipped, and a real-time searchable geo-reference mapping/tracking web site published and mobile app distributed so that you can tell where the bastards are slinking about at all times.
Especially in need of chipping: all the cops dedicated to pursuing “hate” crime.
