I was born in Europe. For many years I held 2 passports. When I came permanently to the US I was pulled aside and required to declare a permanent residence. And so I did. I gave up my other passport.

Now the problem is that every time I need to renew my US passport, I need the help of an attorney…for $$. And I don’t dare let my passport lapse because it would be even more $! I am a US citizen by birth, born to US citizens overseas. Oh!!! And my passport is due for renewal next year.

Being a GI brat, then a GI, I estimate I’ve been to a dozen or so countries and have never had a passport.
Lessee…
Japan, Canada, Okinawa (still US control), Republic of Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, England (just a stop at an airport), West Germany, Conch Republic (actually Key West), Republic of Korea, Portugal (Azores stopover), Germany (reunited), Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Spain (stopover). Oh, yeah, stepped over the line during a visit to Panmunjom so I could say I’ve been to the DPRK.
I keep on planning on getting my US Passport, but I don’t see too much overseas travel coming up unless I take a cruise or lose enough weight to comfortably fit in an airplane seat.
