Not today.
The bee man came this morning. I was at work, but Uncle B tells me he could, as we say where I come from, talk the hind leg off a dog.
The object in the image is some kind of…bee fascinator. It’s a bright yellow box apparently full of herbs and, I dunno, magic ingredients guaranteed to attract bees. He swears if he unleashes this in the attic, it will fill with bees and he can seal it and take them away.
The problem is, he could’t find the hive. He still has to find and trap the queen and that’s where she’ll be. I guess he was too old a dude to go up into the attic and look around for himself, so he’s coming back with a younger dude.
Happy Lammas, peeps.

Hope you are not paying by the trip…
That’s how all these warranty replacement service companies get you… $60, $70 “Trip Charge” for every incident.
I’m guessing if the bees let you live in the house, they are not African (bees).

The challenge of clearing out a huge from a house is many fold. Yes, he has to get the queen. However there are also house beds, beers to young to fly, that need to be eliminated. The biggest problem is getting rid of the hive itself. The comb, brood, pollen and honey can cause all sorts of problems if left in your house. It can attract varmints, or another swarm of bees. The honey can also absorb moisture and start running down and through your walls. Make sure all access is sealed to prevent another swarm from moving in.

If your queen is one of the dreaded Drag Queens, you must be sure to get not only the deviant bee himself but also his full collection of wigs, feather boas, falsies, sequined dresses, theatrical makeup, false eyelashes, fake fingernails, size .13 high heels, and industrial strength girdles.

Friend of my cousin was recently (like a month ago) sitting on his porch on a lovely day with a beverage (as retired folk are known to do) and saw a couple of bees flying around a tree in his yard. He said within minutes there were HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of bees. The trunk of the tree was blanketed. He said the noise was amazing! He called the non emergency number and they sent a guy over. Guy looked it all over and said it was a colony on the move. He was able to find the queen, said she looked healthy and said “leave them alone…they’ll move on in a day or two.” And they did! He said it was the most amazing thing he’d ever seen.

If they’re in a void between the inner and outer walls, make sure your beekeeper is a house carpenter as well.
There’s no harm in letting them stay if they aren’t stinging people.
