Huh.
So this guy stepped down Tuesday. Covered up for a child molester (who wasn’t even a priest).
I’ve not been to many CofE services, outside funerals and Christmas services. We had to go twice when they read the banns. It was one of the least spiritual experiences of my life.
We literally sang Kumbaya.
So Uncle B and I have a side bet going. He thinks the next Archbishop of Canterbury will be a woman. I think it will be a black man (this church has seen huge growth in Africa).
What it probably won’t be (again!) is a Christian.

Ex-archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò is between jobs at the moment and might consider converting if offered the right degree of authority.
Anybody who bucks Jorge Bergoglio is OK in my book.

I have to disagree. If they’re African, they’ll be Christian. If not, who knows?

We have an Asian African American female who’d probably consider a Gender affirming surgery and is certainly as qualified to be Archbishop of Canterbury as she was for the last job she held, and the last job she applied for.
She comes with the unique advantage of growing up middle class and both her parents were crown citizens at birth.
As you can see, she is all things to all people and promises not to laugh (as much) during solemn church ceremonies.
She is finishing up her current job and will be available In roughly 2 score and 17 days.
As you can see, she will satisfy all wager requirements for either side once the transition surgery is complete.
A win for everyone.
Black “man” – win for Weasel
“Woman” – win for Uncle B
We get rid of her – win for us

COE is Catholicism with most of the fun sucked out of it. It was created for a purpose, used, and then allowed to drift along for the next several hundred years. Now for its root purpose, the worship of God, it does a fine job. However, when it comes to expanding its fan base, it’s rather a tough sell, except in places with a solidly, stolidly British background.
This means South Africa, a fertile field filled with despair, aching for the mercy of Christ. I believe that there is definitely a need and desire there for an expansion of Christianity and specifically COE in South Africa since it’s the brand of Christianity with which everyone is most familiar there.
On the other hand, selecting a woman appeals mostly to the most liberal part of the existing British congregation, to wit: a small segment of the COE which is itself declining in popularity (as are all euro-centric religions). The selection of a woman will do nothing to expand the brand, and may indeed shrink it as traditionalists reject the change and go elsewhere (cough Episcopalianism is nice cough).

@Durnedyankee — Plus, her frequent joyous laughter will lighten the mood of what are now overly somber and humorless¹ CoE affairs.
And speaking of “affairs” she knows a lot about those as well.
1. humourless.

To further complicate matters, Some Veg, there is the vague term ‘high church’ – which means CoE but Catholicer – and the actual Anglican Catholics, which split off in the 1970, which I guess is Catholic minus the pope. I know a one of those.
