to the other Richard: we should be so lucky. Blair had at least one non-leftist principle. (He supported Bush in the Iraq War.) And he had a reasonable grounding in the actual operations of the government he headed, unlike Obama.

S: "Red-on-red"? Is this "red" in the current U.S. political sense (Republicans/conservative), or "red" in the military-jargon sense (the enemy)? I recall seeing references to "red-on-red" clashes in Iraq, with U.S. troops listening to gunfights between Al-Qaeda and its erstwhile local allies.

Because, what with the blamefest following Senator Sphincter's defection, it looks like the first sense applies now.

The Democrats may fight sometimes, but it's as Frodo said of the orcs in Mordor: "They hate us, far more, and altogether, all the time."

Obama is an American Blair. Good politician, but instinctively controlling and centralizing; beyondd that he doesn't know or care what the consequences are of his decisions beyond his own electoral prospects.

With our public-ejumacated citizens, an activist-controlled Congress, and The Obamateur in the White House, we're in for the Perfect Storm. Turns out Khrushchev was right, after all.

Ditto on liking the Arlen graphic. I shared it with my blogmates at PAwatercooler.com

Haven't watched much of question time on CSPAN since Blair was PM. I've been too concerned with the socialists on our side of the pond.

I wonder if Cameron is having second thoughts about his American political idol Scharzenegger. (He should be.)

Fingers crosses Labour don’t jettison Brown...

I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone by the end of May - the momentum is building, with more and more of the heavy hitters coming out in print. Latest to have a pop is Hazel Blears, and if even a lightweight like that fancies her chances, what must be going on behind the scenes?

"But Uncle Badger is right - forget Death Watch beetles for gnawing away at the timbers of State. Gramscians are so damaging as to defy belief."

Spot on. Which makes the hinted-at Tory proposals almost more worrying than the proespect of five more years of New Labour!

It's a bit weird watching the ructions in the Labour party from 8,000 km away. The main reason I left the UK was because I knew how badly Blair and his cohorts were going to screw things up. I sense there's an odd, twilit atmosphere in the country - febrile, almost, like the unsettling feeling before a really hellacious thunderstorm lets loose. If a storm does break, I hope it's a corker. A partial measure of justice would see the total electoral extirpation of Labour and its consignment to the political wilderness for decades.

But Uncle Badger is right - forget Death Watch beetles for gnawing away at the timbers of State. Gramscians are so damaging as to defy belief. Even Thatcherism in full flood could only arrest the tide somewhat. To completely turn it back seems to be impossible short of armed insurrection. Adorning every lamppost in the land with Lesbian Outreach Supervisors and Five-a-Day Coordinators is a bare minimum.

Seriously, can you give Obama horns and a forked tail instead? I'm not a religious person per se, but to equate him with the son of God, or if you don't believe that, one of the greatest philosophers, even in jest, makes me itch.

I can't stand looking at the turd.
