I write hardcore commercial software for a living (I mean, life or death, no-shit lotsa bucks riding on the sucker). So what do most people say when I tell them I’m a software engineer? “Oh, wow, can you help me install Vista on my laptop?” I’m a composer, not a fucking piano tuner. It’s very unlikely you can afford me.

I knew a urologist who was once invited to admire a funny spot on his father-in-law’s penis at a dinner party. But I do think some professions are more prone than others.

I believe that guy has written a book. He’s very, very funny — but in that socially embarrassing way I can only take in small doses.

You don’t? You must be the only one. It’s human nature, I think. I personally avoid having to decline invitations to provide free labor by being a thoroughly annoying, sarcastic asshole. Everyone who knows me knows that it’s just not worth the aggravation.

There’s something about art that makes ordinary people go full retard. The kitteh man at the shelter, when he found out I was an illustrator, said, “Great! You could do some illustrations for us!”

Free, of course. I think I was supposed to get paid in the privilege of…shit, I dunno. People are weird. I don’t ask dentists to look at my teeth when I meet them socially.
