Yep. One of the wonderful things about the Net, blogs, and even some of the MSM sites is that - by god! - you can post your $0.02 worth for the world to see! I love it.

Huh. I never noticed the ads. Which tells you something important about sidebar ads (or weasels).

I do wish they had a comment facility, though. It's gotten so I hate reading news I can't bark at.

I had just read that brain-damage article this morning also. When I saw your comment, it clicked. We apparently cruise some of the same roads and alleys. Not surprising really, since our interests often converge.

Hey - does it bug you that Science Daily has those fringe-science advertisements scattered around? I'm not sure what to make of it. Do they quietly accept the ad revenue - knowing their readership is intelligent enough to skip the ads (with distain) - or are they too naive to tell the difference between fringe and mainstream? Or do they assume their readership has a fair number of techno-doofi* included.

*god I hope I got that tense and spelling right or I'll not hear the end of it*

That's spooky, McGoo -- I spent my pre-work time this morning reading Science Daily. When you said that, I thought for a moment there was a comment section and I'd said something stupid in it.

I leave comments all over the damn net every day, and I never remember where. I need a textual pooper scooper.

Ah-ha! Weasel has been here:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/09/070905224343.htm

However, long seconds of web searching yielded no reference to head-thumping islamic bruises, but somehow I don't doubt it in the slightest. God knows it sounds stupid enough.

As an aside - I have often wondered if moslems occasionally fart when bending over in prayer. The answer is: yes. My impression is that if this happens, strict rules dictate that they have to start over again - but I could be wrong. In any case, I don't care. I won't be in the room.

I'd never get out of church if I had to do that though.

..."Same prayer bruise (a dark mark in the center of the forehead, from years of banging it on the ground)."...

Okay. That made me giggle. And it sure explains A LOT.
I would think a guy 6'5" in those parts would stand out, but they aren't going to say anything as he is their modern 'Mo'.

Regular Muslim men in many parts of the world do not wear beards.

But ultra-religious Muslim - they all look like cookies from the same cookie cutter. Same type of clothing (Arab dishdashah), same headdresses (turban or kaffiyeh), same long beards. Same prayer bruise (a dark mark in the center of the forehead, from years of banging it on the ground).

So, no (or yes, depending on one's perspective): UbL would most certainly not stand out in Indonesia or elsewhere. As it is, they are used to seeing Arab or foreign men to study at their training camps or to convert Muslim men and women to true Islam.
