I call it “self portrait in pumpkin and fire”

Today is International Self Portrait Day. No, really.

Would you believe that’s the my best pumpkin ever? I suck at pumpkin carving. Which makes me mad, because I’m an artard and think I should be good at it.

Go look at Mitchell‘s (the artist formerly known as Enas Yorl). His are way better.

OKAY! Y’all know what to do tomorrow.

Make me laugh. Make me cry. Make me gnash my teeth that I’m not there.

FLY, MY PRETTIES!

Shall. We. Play. A. Game? Okay, noon tomorrow, Weasel Blog Time, I’ll put up my election day thread. In it, you can guess the composition of the new 112th Congress. The person coming closest will win a pair of fabulous Aunty’s Spotted Dicks. Exact rules will be posted tomorrow and probably amended several times, because I’m an utter mongtard with numbers.

Okay, so Some Vegetable has just explained to me how over/under works — how about we pick the makeup of the 112th Congress?

Pick a number for Congress, a number for the Senate and your combined over/under is your ticket. Lowest number wins.

Not here. We can hash out how it works here, and I’ll start a thread for it tomorrow.

What’s tomorrow? Tuesday right? I think it should work this way R/D picks in both Houses then you calculate the absolute value for each side. This for example.

Pick: 235/200 R/D in House. Actual: 237/198 R/D in House.
[237-235]=2 [198-200]=2 Total = 4. Add the Senate in the same fashion and that’s your number. Low number wins.

This time we’re going to buy him a satellite if he wins. That’s what Jerry Brown wanted back in the 70’s, California’s very own satellite. That and a state space academy. Lord love a duck, can you quite imagine a California Space Camp? Kind of like Jerry Garcia and Peewee Herman go to space.

Under: 240/195 R/D House
47/53 R/D Senate

What I think will happen:
245/190 R/D House
48/52 R/D Senate

Over:
250/185 R/D House
50/50 Senate

Running Intrade’s numbers through a Monte Carlo analysis gives me the middle set of figures

You’re forgetting the Independents. Even though most of them will caucus with the Dems. But then there are plenty of GOP who caucus with the Dems as well. At least whenever their vote would make a difference…

I think I’ll go with a plain old number of GOP in House, Senate (and the difference between the pick and the final result) to make the math easier. Because math is hard and I’m a girl.

Hm. Okay. Still thinking this through.

Since there are only ten possible shifts in the Senate, there are only ten choices to be had. Obviously, I have to let more than one person pick the same number in the Senate, and it follows that I should let people pick the same numbers in the House, no?

In other words, we could end up with lots of people picking the same numbers. How does that work?

How does this work in football pools? Somebody help me out here.

Hm. How about if no two people can have the exact two number combination? So lots of people may say 7 pickups in the Senate, but they all better have different numbers in the House…?

how does this work…

Either split the prize or use time/date stamps to break ties. The first is for football pools; the second works better (IMO) for online contests.

49/51 R/d Senate

ben nelson will then caucus with the Repubicans… in a lame and futile attempt to save his ass in 2012.

at this time war hero McCain will cum out of the closet and proclaim his Demo-cratical-ness… and undying love for fellow Senator Al “dumbass Gorilla” Franken.

McLame will then “one up” Nelson and announce to the world that the “chubby retard” is in fact the love child of Mr.Personality; aka Senilator Lurch Kerry and the Millionairess Cindy Lou Who Hensley.

Result:
still 49/51.

more amazing Congressional diatribe after the break…. (psychotic or otherwise)

Yeah, I think we’ll have to do it with timestamps. Because several different House/Senate choice combinations could yield the same final score.

Okay, I’ve got it all queued up to go tomorrow at Noon o’clock Weasel Blog Time. No doubt, I’ll have to make amendments as people point out the flaws in my methodology.

Our clocks have changed so WBT now matches my laptop clock, which has it as 12:30 right this minute…

Ours have changed as well. 0600 Central US, 0700 Eastern. (etc.)

I’m an illustrator, but I suck at pictionary. I just can’t scribble something fast and easy, people have a hard time understanding what I draw. I don’t know why.

I’ve never been good at sketches, Christopher. One of my great griefs.

I figure pumpkin carving/sculpting is some kind of arty black-magic. I never got beyond cutting out some triangular bits and a mouth, myself.

Some people however, really have the knack.

Check out this YouTube time-lapse of Lady Liberty being carved into a pumpkin by Scott Cummins. Just… wow.

I like carving unusual punkins. My first (when I was a wee bratling), was a silhouette of a pissed off cat on a fence in front of a full moon. In later years, it was a witch flying on a broom in front of a full moon, then the headless horseman, and finally the headless horseman chasing poor Ichabod Crane past a bare branched tree, with some clouds partially obscuring the full moon. I never did get into the shading part of punkin carving, mine is all effectively ‘line art’ or straight forward silhouette.
One of these days I need to get pics of them, so I can share!

On the other paw, I can sketch a bit, but nothing like Stoaty’s awesome art! 😉
