If you take it, it will leak onto the internet

Yeah, it’s my moms circa 1960. Long time readers will have met my naked mother before. I think this is the third time I’ve posted it. On this blog; I prolly posted it first to USENET a thousand years before that.

In the old days, chilruns, none of this camera phone and iCloud for us. If we wanted nude pics to leak onto the internet, we had to take Polaroids and scan them and leak it all ourselves. *shakes fist*

I haven’t looked at any of the pictures from the latest celebrity nude snapshot hacker challenge. Not really my fetish. But I’m going to go out on a limb here. Unless the pictures were desperately unflattering (and why would anyone keep desperately unflattering nude pictures?), I’m’a guess the celebrities involved really are not all that outraged at the leak.

I mean, we’re talking a population famously on the high side for howling exhibitionist narcissism-bags.

Actors, not my mom. Well, okay, yes. My mom also.

Uncle B’s new camera

Actually, this is a lousy way to show off his new camera. There was so much foliage in the image, the filesize was huge and I had to squeeze the .jpg down to stupid lossy.

Suffice it to say it’s awesome, and the first picture he took was this handsome shot of Jack.

Messing about in boats

Yesterday, the RNLI Dungeness had an Open Day (that’s the Royal National Lifeboat Institution to you). Per Wikipedia, the RNLI has 444 lifeboats at 236 stations. Since 1824, they’ve saved 140,000 lives at the cost of 600.

They’re entirely funded by private money (legacies, donations and merchandise), which I think is unutterably awesome, so we try to turn out when they have a fundraiser and spend some money. I bought a hat and Uncle B bought a burger and we put some money in the thing.

It was a lovely sunny, breezy day, and I didn’t go watch the maneuvers. I plunked myself down on the warm shingle with the complete works of Kipling (I’m up to 2% now!) and listened to them sing sea shanties in the boathouse. That there’s some powerful local atmosphere.

Uncle B did go watch the maneuvers and, even though he only brought a little handheld camera, he got some great action shots of the boats. Black and white doesn’t do ’em justice. He’s a better photographer than I am, and that pisses me off no end.

If you squint at the background, those are the white cliffs of…Folkestone, actually. But the white cliffs of Dover look just the same and they’re the next headland along the coast to the Northeast.

Fun fact: the RNLI was originally called the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck. Or NIPLS.

Happy Good Friday

The term “looker” for shepherd originated on Romney Marsh, next door in Kent. Romney Marsh is a fascinating place. It’s the sticky-outy bit of Kent that waggles suggestively at France.

The little building there is called a looker’s hut and they once dotted the marsh all over. They were mostly used during lambing time, when very close tabs are kept on the ewes and newborns. The typical example is one room, brick, with a chimney and maybe a window. Little cosy places appeal to me mightily. A looker’s hut would be just the thing.

When lookers keep an eye on the flocks these days, they pull up a trailer. Or drive the fields all day. The old huts are falling down, being vandalized or deliberately demolished (when no-one is looking; they’re all protected by order). I can think of a couple that have disappeared just in the years we’ve lived nearby. Very sad.

Here’s a Wikipedia collection of photos, and another from Google Images.

Have a good weekend, all. It’s a four-day holiday here (no separation of church ‘n’ state for the Motherland), but I promise to turn up on Monday and share the leftovers.

Wave g’bye to privacy, folks!

Saw this at a country show over the weekend. It’s the size of a pizza box. It will hover, stable and nearly silent, from a few inches to dozens of feet high. It will run for twenty minutes on a battery. It will send video back in real time. It has built in GPS. If it loses signal or runs low on juice, it returns to the place it was launched and lands.

The owner had only taken delivery a couple of hours before and had never run an RC vehicle before, and he was driving it like a champ. I asked how far he’d managed to send it, and he pointed to a clump of trees I reckon were a quarter mile away.

The base unit is £499, no doubt cheaper in the States (it’s American made Chinese made, Uncle B reminds me. I think the company’s American, though).

And yes, it comes in black.

Yes, please! Whorify my baby!

Oh. Ow. Geez. I’m not big on heavy-handed government regulation, but don’t you think it’s high time we had a taste-based licensing scheme for Photoshop?

Otherwise, we might end up with people doing this.

Or this.

Or even this.

‘Nuff said.

Something light and fluffy

Awesome confluence of man and t-shirt, from Anorak‘s picture of the day. If you don’t read Anorak, you should. Our good friend David Burge (AKA Iowahawk) is a contributor.

That’s it. Have a good weekend, folks. Forget about SCOTUS and POTUS and FLOTUS for a couple of days.

Me, I have to go make cupcakes for the church bake sale.

Yes, really.

Ehhhh…fuck off.

Yes, sir, you certainly be

There are two important things you need to know about this photograph:

1. It has not been Photoshopped. Not by me, anyway.

2. It was hand picked by campaign staffers to be uploaded to Obama’s Facebook page and website.

Okay, three things:

3. It’s not the only embarrassing shot they chose to publicize. No sirree bob.

Go on, click the link. It’s not an icky old Obamalink, it’s from David Stein at Republican Party Animals (who’s written some funny captions to go with).

Mee-maw, that you?

Capitalism, like oxygen, expands to fill all available space.

I was looking for a Kindle version of Carole King’s new autobiography, Natural Woman, and that particular word combination turned up this guy.

His deal is, he finds old nudie pictures — old enough to be way out of copyright — collects them, Kindles them and sells the collections for a couple of quid each. Genius.

Amazon e-books are giving the old publishing houses the vapors, but all the attention so far has been on authors self-publishing their own titles.

Grandma Buttnekkid McNuderson here gives us a glimpse of a whole ‘nother universe of opportunity.

Think of all the bzillions of works out of copyright and kicking around the ‘net. Formatting those properly for Kindle adds genuine value. Plus an interesting introduction, a good cover, maybe some illustrations. Hell yes I’d pay a couple of bucks for that rather than struggle with the unformatted Project Gutenberg version.

Out of nothing, opportunity. Behold the free market!

You know, I don’t think my patented Weasel Brand Snark ™ would add much to this story, so I’m’onna recommend you go read the original. It’s oddly worth your time.

Meanwhile, the drain thingie on the fridge is clogged with chunks of eel and lamb spleen, or whatever’s in those pasties we eat. I have to go pick it out and mop the kitchen floor.
