Movie night!

hollywood

Okay, last one from the weekend’s flower shows. Yes, that is a people-sized replica of Oscar. Where this little village church got so much gold foil, I do not know.

The theme of this flower show was — duh — favorite movies and it was loads of wholesome fun. Let’s end the week with a little quiz, shall we?

Can you guess what movie this flower arrangement represents? No? I cheated; I had the program. Here’s your answer. Heh.

Okay, how about this one? That’s a little easier. Answer.

Right. Last one. Look closely for clues in the props. And the answer is this one! In church. Near the pulpit.

There were loads more, but those were the most fun.

Not much on this weekend. Nothing tomorrow, and a ploughing match on Sunday. I don’t plough much these days; lower back trouble. Good weekend, all!

so much mawkish

funeral

Can you believe it’s September already? I forgot to acknowledge yesterday’s date; August 31st is the anniversary of Princess Di’s death.

What makes that significant to me, my very first trip to Britain was a week after her funeral (if my plane ticket had been before her funeral, I could’ve scalped it for a flipping fortune).

We went to Hyde Park on that first day. They had take, bulldozers to the sea of flowers and teddybears(!) and pushed them into great floral mountains behind temporary barriers. There were pools of wax the size of dinner tables from the candles that had been burned.

It was the most un-English thing I’d ever seen.

One site I visited tonight said it’s still the most witnessed event in history, with 2.5 billion tuning in. That’s pretty impressive, considering the population of Britain was, like, 50 million at the time. I get the impression most Brits these days are pretty embarrassed about the outpouring then. Though most still cling to the belief there’s something very fishy about her death.

Next year will be the twentieth anniversary. It’ll be interesting to see what happens…
