Still workin’ it

Believe it or not, we do Thanksgiving as a midnight meal. And it’s midnight.

Hope yours was awesome. Mine’s still in the works. Better scurry!

We braved the winds to deep fry a bird….30 degree temps, 30 mph sustained winds, 45 mph gusts. In other words, we’ re fucking crazy! Best part of the night…watching the neice’s 5# chihuahua approach my 15 year old cat who is so arthritic she hardly moves. Cat hissed, chihuahua yelped and ran to any adult for protection, cat never moved. THAT’s what it his holiday is all about!

Is there an explanation why anyone in their right mind would have Thanksgiving at midnight?

How does that even work? The meal doesn’t end until 1 AM, at the least. Then everyone gabs away for another hour. Its 2 in the morning at that point. Does the host really make the guests drive home at that hour with the ‘itis’ setting in from so much turkey?

I was so hoping there was a back story! Like a curse or superstition from the nearby moors. Or the midnight time came from the middle ages when peasants had to wait until the lords were in bed before enjoying the turkey poached from his lands. Or its a French custom brought over by the Normans back in the day. Even perhaps during the Blitz, when all those English families in the Tube were forced to wait until Midnight to eat on Thanksgiving of 1940.

Something like that would have been really cool. Oh well.
