Good weekend (and beyond!)

xmasweez

Okay, youse guys, I obviously checked out a couple of miles back. I got a stitch in my give-a-shit somewhere around Wednesday. I’ll be around all week and looking in, but the political class can go to hell without me for a couple of weeks.

Let the festivities begin!

Yeah, been phoning it in over the past week as well…just trying to slog across the finish line. It’s been a very long year.

Count me in, too. This has been a gruelling year.

Gruelling.. there’s a good word. Sounds Viking but apparently dates from the mid-19th C. Huh!

Gruelling works…you can throw in punishing, agonizing, and tortuous for good measure :+)

I get the 24th and 25th off just because those are my regularly scheduled days. Back on the 26th, working on the 1st. Meanwhile my sister is off until Jan 4th. Grrr.

I’m off till January 4 as well, but it’s all un-paid. This is the first time off I’ve taken since I was hospitalized with a blood clot in my lung in March 2012, so I’m not going to feel guilty :+)

I’m only actually taking 6 days that are work days…the rest is weekend or statutory holiday.

There’s not a speck of snow on the ground here in eastern Canada…been rainy for weeks with a steady stream of warm air from the gulf…the rest of Canada has been having winter for a while already…hope we get a bit of snow for Christmas…looks pretty yucky.

It’s unseasonably warm here, too. It doesn’t feel Christmassy at all, at least weather-wise.

We haven’t had a fire, nor barely had the heat on for days!

Stupid globular warmening.

I think it’s more the El Nino thing…shifting weather patterns to push more warm air north. This is the kind of weather that we would have an ice storm =:O

No, doesn’t feel Christmassy…people around the neighborhood are putting in extra effort with decorations in their front yard…one guy built a sleigh with presents and some reindeer made out of logs and tree branches…it’s pretty good :+)

I’ve got all my Christmas shopping done…I started in November cuz I do it all online now and you need to allow time for shipping and the occasional return. Don’t know how we ever got along without online shopping and banking!

Yeah; beware La Niña. She could be a real bitch next time.

El Nino seems to mean business this time, for sure. I hope at least that it ends the drought in the US South West.

I’ve been off since December 4th, returning to the grind on January 6th.

Lots of movies showed up on the ‘net today – “The Relevant” (excellent), “The Hateful Eight” (meh), “He Never Died” (still need to watch it). Gotta love Oscar season.

The typhoons have passed and we had sunshine today. Hopefully it stays clear until January. Since it’s dry finally, I’ll be building more cabinets for the kitchen. Gotta get that honey-do list completed before New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone!

Scudda Hoo, Scudda Hay! The Airing of Grievances is once again upon us.

I personally am very cheesed off by the poor quality of underwear elastic nowadays…which does not appear to be a new issue.

Possibly arising from that “gruel” all the poor people in Dickens novels is always being served.

It’s really hard to get into Christmas when Santa is wearing a T-shirt and shorts, the reindeer are fanning themselves, and Frosty melted long ago. My version of “Winter Wonderland” goes like this here:

Later on, we’ll perspire —
“Is that A/C? Turn it higher!”
We drive and we grump
O’er potholes and bumps,
Sweating in a sticky swampy land!

Wolfus Aurelius (and Uncle B): According to Oxford Dictionary Online, gruelling is “Mid 19th century: from the verb gruel ‘exhaust, punish’, from an old phrase get one’s gruel ‘receive one’s punishment’.”
