Aww, I love donkeys. I even did some online research once about what is involved in owning one as a kind of pet. It was all good as far as space, food, shelter, exercise, and then I ran into weekly hoof care. Well. That’s a nope for me.

I have a hard time reconciling pet care responsibilities described on the internet with actual pet care I see in real life. Prime example: every single pet site I’ve read says all dogs must be walked at least once *daily*, in addition to varying number of daily hours of active play. On the one hand, I know I wouldn’t be up to that and that means I have no business getting a dog; on the other hand, I don’t personally know any dog owners who come close to doing that, and most (not all) have happy, well adjusted dogs.
Why would all those sites unambiguously lay out minimum standards of care that the majority of pet owners never come close to reaching? Are they all secret PETA members who want to eradicate pet ownership by discouraging new entrants? There are similarly unachievable (for me) minimum requirements for pet rabbits and chickens also. This is why I only have a cat.
