Lightning strike! Lightning strike!

We’ve been without internet most of the day. We had a hellatious lightning storm last night. Those two things may or may not be related.

The storm was over before dawn and the internet went down mid-morning, but it’s hard not to think they’re related.

Without internet.

Most of the day.

I don’t ever, ever, ever want to go through that again.

I read a book.

I remember books. They’re heavy and you’re forever hunting for the place you stopped reading last. Some of them smell funny, and sometimes the pages get stuck together.

Seriously though, there was a long time when I insisted that I preferred paper books to my iPad. However, now I can’t imagine going back.

Don’t they have cell phones (mo-bials) in your part of the UK? You can create a WiFi hotspot from the satellite up in the sky!

As a serious question, how do you get WiFi? DSL, fiber, ??? In SoCal fires, it seemed fiber connections went down all over the place while old, slow DSL copper lines were singing away as if nothing was burning.

It’s ADSL here – we’re too rural for fibre. And yes, we did use fones for email checking and so on but we don’t have huge amounts of data in our plans, so…

Her Stoatliness wasn’t in too bad a state, actually. I only had to coax her down off the ceiling a couple of times…

Read a book! Oh dear. I’m so in love with my Kindle, there must be something wrong with me. But I’ve collected books by two authors in particular, and I don’t have them on Kindle. It is time for me to read them all again. I do that about every five years. (Plus all of Jane Austen. And Ivanhoe.) Heavens! Don’t you love Ivanhoe. It has everything but an opera.

Well, by book, I meant Kindle. I mean, c’mon. We’re not *savages*.
