Ending the week on another chicken
Rooster in a flower pot. He’s making the angry face because that’s the only face a chicken can make; he’s actually blissing out paddling around in the soil. Uncle B kindly left this pot full of loose compost for them and they take turns at it, having a dirt bath.
He’s a beautiful boy, but very definitely Number Two Roo.
We just got back from a party of the ‘one glass of wine and some cheese on a stick’ kind. And very enjoyable it was, too.

Although I am old, I have never plucked a chicken. I have heard of the trick of drawing a chalk-line down the bird’s beak to hypnotize it so you can cut the head off, but I tend to pigeon-hole it in the same drawer as salting a bird’s tail.
The big problem, as I understand things, is plucking the damn thing. It is rumored to be the origin of the phrase “Pluck This”, although some insist it alludes to banjos.
Is Badger House deep enough in Ye Olde England to have a butcher to whom one can deliver a rooster-in-a-box, and return later to pick up a roast-ready bird, formerly known as “Free Range”?

I don’t believe that is still legal here, Some Veg. Her Stoatliness will correct me, no doubt, but while I think you are possibly allowed to do for your own fowl, if it is to be done professionally it has to be done in a licensed abattoir.
