Take two
Meh. I just abandoned a post partway through.
I watched a complete walkthrough of the game The Last of Us 2 last week. In case you’ve missed the controversy, it’s another lost battle in the culture war (it’s oh, so painful and woke). But apparently I can’t explain why without gibbering at great length and most of you aren’t the least interested in video games.
So let me leave it at this: the picture is a new character. Here she is, exhausted from slowly beating to death your favorite character from the first game with a golf club, while your other favorite character watches, screaming and crying. It happens about two hours in.
Then you get to spend ten hours playing as her. The murderer. Who is totally a woman and not a transsexual or anything.
The message of the game is ‘hate is bad’. Because of all the shitty things that happen to your other favorite character as she seeks revenge. Not because of anything bad that happens to Tranny McMa’am here. She’s fine.
It’s a thoroughly miserable experience from start to finish. And some (many!) people are calling it a masterpiece because anything that hurts this much has got to be grown up and deep, right?
p.s. The graphics were really beautiful. Not going to lie, I’m dying to play a good game with scenery this wonderfully rendered.

Welcome to “you will be made to care” even when you were sort of agnostic about a lot of things.
That’s why I stick to games like Panzergeneral. There aren’t any woke generals or armored vehicles in any WWII arsenals or military organizations.
Oh, I forgot to mention, now I DO care about a lot of things I didn’t care about before, and trust me, I don’t “CARE” in the way I’m supposed to, and given the opportunity I WILL express my feelings about how much I care now, whereas before I was willing to let bygones be bygones.

“Gasoline” Maxwell was taken into custody for transfer to the 2nd District of New York to face charges (and “suicide” in her jail cell) in relation to Jeffery Epstein and sex trafficking.
Jeffery, as you all know, who’s only 2 friends in the world were Prince Andrew and Donald Trump, probably trafficked in minors on occasion while he was collecting material for his little black book of blackmail of all the other people who he never ever associated with, like, um, Bill Clinton.
This makes her an excellent candidate in short order for a Dead Pool win.
2nd District is hoping to go 2 for 2 on convenient suicides.

I have a general rule that I never ever read, watch, or play anything rated four stars. That ranking generally means one of two things – either it is so incomprehensible that that no critic wants to admit they don’t understand it either, or it deals with the pet issue of the moment. Ah, that’s the thing. It’s the infamously woke gaming press giving it high ratings, Rich. People who rely on their good relationships with publishers (in this case Sony) to get early access to games.
Also a few Youtubers hoping for same.

For a glimpse of what near future gaming will look like, check out this demo of Unreal 5 graphics engine … unbelievable .. at least to someone who cut his gaming teeth on Castle Wolfenstein on Apple II.

I’ve been rejoicing in the non-wokeness of classic QuakeII with friends on a (mostly)private server. Just some good, chunky, bloody, riotous shootin’ amongst friends while giving each other an earful on TS/Discord. It has been delightfully distracting.
Tomorrow is our annual pilgrimage to the LD-range for some trigger-therapy and camaraderie.
