Sigh. Okay.

Eh. I finally got irritated enough with Twitter to sign up for Parler. The sticking point with me was giving them a phone number. And you can’t give them a fake, because they use it to send you an authentication code (every time you log in on a new device, yay).

I’m getting sick of those – the subject line is always a number, but it’s not THE number. Who thought that was a good idea?

Anyhoo. Reactions.

The controls are slightly different to Twitter, which takes some getting used to. And as you might expect from a social media company whose backbone is composed of people who got kicked off of the more mainstream platform, it’s kind of like the rejects table in the junior high cafeteria.

Been there. Comfy as an old shoe.

My main objection is that it moves too slowly. Twitter is addictive because you’re getting those fast dopamine hits every few seconds (it’s especially addictive when you get an angry hit every few seconds, but I enthusiastically avoid that particular vice).

I suspect their site is part of the problem – it needs to be tweaked to move faster. And people aren’t as active there. But I also suspect I’m not following enough people to keep it moving. If you’re on there, hit me up. Or shout out to @StoatyWeasel on the platform.

At the moment, I’m keeping Twitter AND Parler open, to make sure I never have a moment’s mental clarity.

p.s. Yes! We have a Dead Pool winner. Poor old Alex Trebek. Not the shortest on record, but short. See you Friday!

Well, you could try Gab which doesn’t ask you for a phone number.

So can I just *watch* Parler without signing up? I lurk many twitter feeds but don’t have an account.

“They” probably have your number already anyway Sweasy.

At least it provides you with a useful feature when you forget your password or want two level authentications.

Hey ain’t it grand that a mere two weeks from the giant increase in the PANICDEMIC suddenly a miracle occurred and big Pharma is allowed to roll out the vaccines they found in the trunk of someone’s car! This is like watching the miracle of “this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

What conspiracy?

If Pfizer had followed its published protocol for the study, the good news would have been announced in October when it would have done the most good for President Trump’s reelection campaign. So of course they waited and are now making excuses.

What did Parler do with your phone number?

@Expressobold

Probably going to write “for a musky time, must have own bagpipes or banjo” references on the Weaselpub loo walls.

Just send me confirmation codes to it, ExpressoBold. I just hate giving the thing out to anyone.

Ya, that two factor authentication works neat. I had that set up on my mediocre blog. And then I lost my ‘phone. and that caused me to lose my mediocre blog. It is still in hyperwebspace summers, but I can no longer administer it.

In a similar circumstance, just a few days ago, what with all the election uncertainty, I thought it would be a good time to get off Google. So I uninstalled Google Chrome.

Now it looks like I’ve lost control of two or three backup email addresses because I left the login details up to Google and just reinstalling Chrome hasn’t fixed the problem. I still want to reduce my visibility online, but the second you log into any commercial account (Amazon,Walmart, your bank) they reacquire you again.
The only way to stay invisible is stay offline completely and that is just too boring.

Going dark and getting off the ‘net wouldn’t work for someone like yourself anyway. JUST DON’T LOSE THAT ‘PHONE.

I’ve got an account I use (could be this one) for which I can’t remember the password.
And to make a new one, I first have to enter my old one.
Bah.
So, when I disappear one day, it won’t be from lack of interest. I’ll either be dead or have been unable to recover my password.
