Ain’t nobody got time for that…

One side effect of being on Twitter so much is learning how many people have, or are planning to have, podcasts. Or YouTube rant channels or whatever.

Some of them I maybe, sorta have an interest in topically – but holy geez, they’re so long! Hours, some of them.

And they all start off with their intro (okay, branding, I get it) and then they natter on for a while about their schedule for the next week and what they’re playing on Twitch afterwards. I mean, you’re five, ten minutes in and they still haven’t said anything on-topic. I DON’T HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN.

Surely, there isn’t a market for so much content from the same angle. And who has time for this? Who has two hours to be captive? You can skim a headline aggregator in seconds. Done.

p.s. yes, I’m trying to wean myself off Twitter. I need a project.

p.p.s. have a good weekend, everyone!

I mean, I get listening to someone with subject-matter expertise drill down on a topic, but most of these are just rant channels.

Oh! And there’s a special circle of hell for people who make me sit through ten minutes of a “how did Neolithic people carve rocks?” video before they pull out a Dremel.

5 hours and 23 minutes and 44 seconds of a single guy answering questions about World War I and/ or World War II ships.

He has two or three short programs every week and once a month or so he does a -minimum- of an hour answering questions. He does entertain counter-factual scenarios though which expands his turf somewhat. I would speculate that he easily has a couple of thousand hours of material on YouTube.

His voice is quite soothing. Why, no, he’s not a current or former member of the Navy. Why do you ask?

Oh: zero politics.

They natter like that because they’re all little narcissists that love the sound of their own voices. One of the sucky things about still being in a technical field that is changing and you have to keep up with is that almost everything is tutorials on YouTube now, nobody writes anything anymore.

…and a lot of them are just like that…they natter about pointless crap for 20 minutes before they actually get to the subject you went there for, grrrrr.

It probably makes them more money if they keep you there longer and shovel more ads at you…must be *some* reason for it.

Content from a single Angle?

We demand more content from Picts!

And in your Daily Fail joke for today –
Daily Fail posts article claiming in the headline the Army NG troops were ordered OUT of the capitol onto the lawn and into a parking garage by a lone unknown Capitol police officer Barney Fife.

Yes, I can just see the CO (General, Colonel, Major, whatever officer) snapping to attention at that order and instantly complying!

But someone must have said – woah! Not bloody likely!

Almost immediately they disappear it, and replace the link with a story about her Ladyness Dr Jill Biden going over and visiting the poor dears in the austere mountains and valleys of the Hindu Kuwashington Mall, keeping us all safe from “insurrectionists”.
She’s so brave and awesome and we’d never claim she was using the troops as a photo op background.

I cannot recommend deleting Twitter enough. It is naught but a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Take up crochet or knitting! Or both! Nifty skills where you can make actual useful stuff in your spare time!

Yeah, for video to be worth watching, it’s got to be very, very snappy. (Podcasts are a permanent nonstarter for me since they don’t have captioning.) I could read the transcript probably 100x faster than watching a video. Can’t understand how anyone has the patience to sit around watching those things. I can’t stand television anymore unless I’ve got something to do with my hands.

Reddit. They have terrible self-owns like fingering the wrong guy for the Boston Marathon and doxxing him (but they forever parody themself for that), but it’s 50% chaotic and 50% ads, instead of the ratios for HateBook and Twatter.
Also, they just led the charge on the GameStop stock price thing and you can join in that kind of fun.
Until the big Tech companies neuter them, of course.
