Top gadget

Ladies and gentlemen, my strawberry corer. Oh, you might laugh (well, one of my friends laughed, anyway), but it really is quite handy. I wish I had one back in the days when we’d buy a crate of strawbs for jam. You know, before we figured out we don’t eat that much jam.

We got carried away being country folk.

I mentioned the corer way back when I bought the spiralizer. Update: I still use the spiralizer, but I have yet to perfect the spicy curly fry. In fact, I’ve more or less given up.

I’m –

I don’t know how to put this.

Just blurt it out, I guess.

I’m putting spiralized apple in my cole slaw. I didn’t invent it, mind. A recipe for celeriac coleslaw called for a granny smith apple. I didn’t have a granny smith, but I had a pink lady. Apple, red cabbage and carrot. It’s nice!

Come on – it’s not as crazy as those people who put walnuts in their slaw.

That kitchen gadget looks a lot easier to use than digging out the nib with a small knife!

And apples in your salad? Nope not crazy, sounds good.

Sort of like discovering raisins are good in rice, or avocado tastes good in baked beans or… candied bacon, whiskey cheddar and blackberry compote…on a hamburger! (Courtesy of Rodeo Goat restaurant)

Mixing flavors is awesome, that’s what makes Indian food so good while bland everything is boiled food from a certain country so, uh, uh, likely to inspire people to seek out new flavors by conquering the world.

At least you’re not preserving your fish in lye.

Apple in the slaw. You put pineapple on your pizza too, don’t you?

Now I have Turkey in the Straw in my head. DOH!

@Stoaty: Wut?! What? Whaaat? What is that you say? Walnuts in coleslaw? ewww.

Your combo sounds very nice. I often add an apple.

Durned…check out Mike Robinson or Harwood Arms. The boiled food trope sailed long ago.

Walnuts in slaw? No-no-no-no-no! May as well put Stilton in a chocolate shake.

Any fule kno that walnuts go in Waldorf salad, not cole slaw!

Wal-dorf. Wal-nut. I mean, could it be any more obvious and natural?

Heh. I been putting apples in my slaw for years! I generally use a Granny Smith but in the last few years have been known to use a pink lady. For once it appears I’m way ahead of the curve!

A picture of the Device in front of a less complicated background might be nice.

I think maybe I could use one. I put cut-up strawberries in ice cream. To get rid of the core, I split one through the core, then cut a notch in each half. The tool would be a lot easier.

Mine is a fairly traditional coleslaw (white cabbage, red onions, green pepper). . .but I do top it just before serving with roasted salted peanuts. Gives it an interesting crunch. . .
