I used to get spam about these
We went to a cat rescue open day over the weekend, where I met this fellow. Very long haired ginger. They had to shave him when he arrived he was so matted.
He felt it keenly. I tried to pet him and he hissed and swiped at me. He’s going to be a gorgeous boy when it grows back out, but he won’t get brushed with that attitude.
They had their highest turnout ever and a distinct lack of cats, so there were like five people surrounding every cat. And boy were the cats crabby about it. Lots of hissing and swiping and hiding ’round the back.
Behind one shed was a roped off area with a big row of litter boxes and a dozen of them were hanging out back there, like High Schoolers sneaking a smoke in the bathroom.
Nobody seemed to mind. Cat people be like, “aw, isn’t that cute?” as they struggle to stanch an arterial bleed. And they made lots of money for the cats, which is the important thing.

Poor guy. I really do sympathize. Cats are, contrary to the malicious rumors spread by dog people, very self-conscious. They hate it when they think they look bad or have done something wrong. If you’ve ever seen a cat jump up and miss the landing, you’ll know what I mean. It will immediately look around to see if anybody was watching and if there was fake a nonchalant face grooming swipe or two and then slink away.

Yeah, if that’s not “go ahead and try it” i’ll be a monkey’s uncle.
Durnedyankee Son#3 used to count how many times he could piss the cat off before she swatted him. Don’t know why, but the cats, and dogs, seem to consider him theirs, when I’m the one who spoils them. We just don’t get it.

From: Some Vegetable who can’t edit to add his name after he forgot.
I agree with Uncle Al- cats hate to be embarrassed.
We had a beautiful white Turkish Angora years ago who got bitten on the butt in a cat fight. Yes, he was a bad-ass cat in all senses of the phrase. He wasn’t that seriously injured but Mrs. Vegetable worried about infection so off to the Vet it was.
The Vet knowing him for the BITER he was , wisely knocked him out and then proceeded to shave him completely from “the waist” down, leaving only his white tail and little white booties. … but on his upper half he was, of course, left un-shaved.
The cat turned out to be the most amazing cat-nose pink everywhere under where his fur had been…. and looked for all the world like he was wearing a white shirt and no pants !. It was hilarious and every time he came into the room we would just start to laugh and laugh. He would literally back out of the room and go hide for a while.
Poor guy. This lasted for a couple of weeks until his fur started to grow out and we stopped teasing him.
