Dead Pool 160: a nice round number

Well! Nana1 takes her third dick with Dianne Feinstein. Let’s face it, this is the only way Feinstein was ever going to retire. I deliberately didn’t go back and refresh my memory of the awful things she did in office because, to be honest, I have enough living people to be pissed off about.

Let’s get to it.

C’mon, admit it – you’ll be a little bit sad when you can’t pick Jimmy Carter any more.

What’s that? No?

0. Rule Zero (AKA Steve’s Rule): your pick has to be living when picked. Also, nobody whose execution date is circled on the calendar. Also, please don’t kill anybody. Plus (Pupster’s Rule) no picking someone who’s only famous for being the oldest person alive.

1. Pick a celebrity. Any celebrity — though I reserve the right to nix picks I never heard of (I don’t generally follow the Dead Pool threads carefully, so if you’re unsure of your pick, call it to my attention).

2. We start from scratch every time. No matter who you had last time, or who you may have called between rounds, you have to turn up on this very thread and stake your claim.

3. Poaching and other dirty tricks positively encouraged.

4. Your first choice sticks. Don’t just blurt something out, m’kay? Also, make sure you have a correct spelling of your choice somewhere in your comment. These threads get longish and I use search to figure out if we have a winner.

5. It’s up to you to search the thread and make sure your choice is unique. I’m waayyyy too lazy to catch the dupes. Popular picks go fast.

6. The pool stays open until somebody on the list dies. Feel free to jump in any time. Noobs, strangers, drive-bys and one-comment-wonders — all are welcome.

7. If you want your fabulous prize, you have to entrust me with a mailing address. If you’ve won before, send me your address again. I don’t keep good records.

8. The new DeadPool will begin 6pm WBT (Weasel’s Blog Time) the Friday after the last round is concluded.

The winner, if the winner chooses to entrust me with a mailing address, will receive an Official Certificate of Dick Winning and a small original drawing on paper suffused with elephant shit particles. Because I’m fresh out of fairy shit particles.

Ok, somebody above my time-zone pay grade needs to make a call here. The article I read said Piper Laurie died ‘early Saturday morning’ in LA. That’s 8 hours behind WBT (if my math is right). Subtract 8 hours from Blake’s time stamp of 12:31am on the 15th and I get his pick came in at 4:31pm LA time on the 14th…not exactly ‘early Saturday morning’.

Your math is correct, Fritz: WBT is 8hrs ahead of LA time. Blakes pick is 3+ hours after Piper Laurie’s death was reported in THR.

Nice try, Blake.

Comment from BullDawgGuy
Time: October 16, 2023, 2:01 pm

I want to give Blake the benefit of the doubt that this person was simply documenting that Piper Laurie had died. Blake had already picked Roger Corman on Oct. 8th so I do not think this pick was a STEVE rule Pick to try and win the deadpool. Even if it was it was not a qualified pick as it violated other rules.

So with that said is Blake still in the Deadpool with the original Roger Corman pick?

Of course there could be two “Blake” out there.

@Steve’s kid, I like the way your mind works.
@steve, you have good reason to be a proud dad.

I’ve looked but have yet to find any of the reporting mention a time of death for Card. The newzies have chosen to fill their reportaaaaazh with sobbing and wailing. The sobbing and wailing is to be sure totally understandable and natural, but the coverage is leaving otherwise important stuff out to focus on the pain. Ghouls, they are.

And now for some flagrant lobbying:

AP reports that the site was searched and cleared twice. 2nd time on Friday! Card’s body was found on the subsequent, 3rd search.

So, picked Thursday, confirmed “not dead” at that location on Friday.

More flagrant lobbying!

I posted my pick of Robert Card at 9:22 pm on the 26th of October.

Coroner puts TOD at 8-10 hrs before body was found. (WBZ article)
(9:22AM on the 27th of October which is a Friday)

Body was found at 7:45PM, Friday (Independent article)

So, if my math is correct, I had my pick in at least 10 hours before his TOD and am not subject to my father’s rule!

Oh, yeah, guys, I’d already claimed Roger Corman when Piper Laurie died, so even if I wanted to pull a Steve, the Roger Corman leaves me out.

I could’ve pretended to be a different blake, but you’ll see all the blakes are pointed to my website, dsblake.com, so for all intents and purposes there is only one blake, and we’re all blake here. Or something.

Been busy with the books so I hadn’t checked in lately. It was just seeing Jimmy Carter trending on X that made me realize how long it had been!

Comment from Rich Rostrom
Time: November 14, 2023, 4:08 am

ISTM that if Card counts as a “celebrity”, then Steve’s Kid is the winner by several days. Card apparently topped himself after the pick was posted, and well before Borman snuffed it.

Though IMHO that celebrity status would be dubious. Merely having committed a serious crime should not qualify one as a celebrity – call it the Herostratus Rule (after the ancient Greek who torched a famous temple just for notoriety). But our esteemed hostess sall decide.

And speaking of (and to) our hostess…
The Dead Pool numbering is broken!

DP 166 (6/16/23-6/20/23) was followed by DP “157” (7/7/23- 8/26/23), then DP “158” (9/1/23-9/4/23), DP “159” (9/8/23-9/29/23), and DP “160” (10/6/23-11/7/23).

The actual DPs 157, 158, 159, and 160 were all in 2022.

The next DP should be 171.

BTW, when the question above is resolved, I will publish the next iteration of the statistical report including DP _170_. I’ve written a perl script which extracts the leaderboards and other fun stuff from the raw data. It was quite educational, and I learned quite a bit. Of course all the cool kids moved on to python years ago, but I needed to work on my skills anyway.
