Finally.
Uncle B went out this morning and my package was leaning against the front door. In fairness to FedEx, they have phoned me several times and missed me, trying to track down what happened. Which tells me what happened was it was delivered to someone farther up the road, who got around to hand delivering it back. It hadn’t been opened.
I’ve tried to tell FedEx to cancel the case number and spare themselves further hassle, but they make it so hard to get in touch.
The lenses were from a company called Zenni in the States, which seems like some kind of luxury glasses firm. The package was so sexy I’m considering getting a pair of specs from them (I need a new pair). Sexy, sexy bifocals.
The good news is, I was home sick with this cold and able to play with the headset today. The bad news is, I was home sick with this cold and really didn’t feel like it.

Nah, scratch that. All their frames are stupid.
Cat eye? I don’t think so.

It takes a village to deliver a package.
Since Poor Weazy is under the weather, I am going to (almost shamelessly) hijack her thread. I rationalize that she’d rather sleep than chat right now.
I am very close to doing the fancy artificial lenses thing when (theoretically) I won’t need glasses at all anymore.
I would love any feedback from anybody

@Mme. Ermine, @BullDawgGirl picked Iris Apfel, the interior and fashion designer. She croaked March 1st.

I had a nasty injury to my right eye when I was about eight years old and have had poor vision ever since. Then I had my 1st cataract surgery on that eye about 14 years ago (got a toric lens). The improvement was unbelievably good! I still needed glasses because my “good” eye is a bit nearsighted and has some astigmatism.
Then about five years ago, I had cataract surgery on the good eye. Wow! The new lens is of the kind that’s attached somehow to my eye muscles and so it mimics the focusing action of a real lens.
I didn’t need glasses for about three years. I’m an old guy (I’ll be 75 in May) and so my vision naturally slowly deteriorates. Not surprising, not a calamity, it’s just how things are. Those three years without glasses were a joy, and well worth the expense/discomfort of the surgery (and the discomfort was surprisingly minimal).
In the hopes of “no surprises” ask your eye doc about how long you can expect the new lens/lenses to work without external correction, i.e. glasses.

Yeah I was gonna say Zenni is the opposite of high end, but very convenient for cheap prescription glasses on the internet. I bought 2 pairs of Rayban style sunglasses, I keep them in my cars as backups.

To those curious about getting your lenses replaced.
Mrs D has had…6 works done. First the laser fixery.
Then, back when they promised the miracle that you wouldn’t need glasses ever again! Then the radio ads suddenly stopped making that promise (because they lied).
When she started having some trouble with seeing again she had work done by a Doc in Houston who, it seems, was sort of a pioneer in the biz. He had, for a doctor, some unusual observations to make bout the set he replaced, damn near as close to “what idiot did this!” as I’ve heard a doctor say about another doctor without him saying “what idiot did this!”
I’ve known her since we wuz (she 5) (me 8) young younguns and when we married she was wearing coke bottle lenses. The replacement eye lenses have been a great boon to her, and she sees way better without her glasses than I do without mine (which is different than our first…many years of marriage).
She swears by them.
Also a good friend just last month had his done and he grumbles jokingly because he can’t get used to NOT wearing his glasses to walk around the house. He’ll also need readers, but that ain’t bad for 73 if you ask me.
The recovery time is pretty damn short considering it’s your eyeballs we’re talking about here.
The procedures are amazingly quick to perform (unnerving to watch) and both the boss and my buddy had zero complaints.
You get one done, and about 2 weeks later they do the other.
Then boom….you’re done. Just remember you can’t be lifting things over about 5 pounds (Old English/American) or running through smoke filled rooms during the recovery period.

I like Zenni, their prices are very reasonable and they get the glasses to you pretty fast, at least here in the states.

Heh. Mine came from the States and were shipped overseas and were still pretty fast. I didn’t like any of their frames, though.

@stoaty — If you’re a troglodyte, them I’m one, too. Her name rang the tiniest most anemic bell but I had to look her up and then realized I must have been thinking of someone else’s bell.

Zenni is great for Rx sunglasses!
