Don’t let the door hit you

I’m sitting here, minding my own business, gossiping on the internet, when this pops up. I don’t remember this happening when they retired any other Operating System.

No more Tuesday Windows updates? Threaten me with a good time, why don’t you?

I know, I know…security fixes. But this computer is 10 years old as I type and the gummy keyboard is starting to drive me crazy. The idea I’ll still be pecking away on it in October of 2025 is a stretch.

Have a good weekend, y’all!

I feel like I oughtn’t but I’m going to put it out there… Linux.
I’ve been toying with moving for at least a decade but the final straw was buying a new laptop about 3 months ago and having Win 11 require tying in to an online account, no local account allowed. And then I read about all the hoops I’d have to jump through to shut down or at least mitigate the personal data scrapping Microsoft has cranked to 11(!). So, I returned the laptop and got a Linux friendly laptop. It’s only been about a month but so far so good. It’s like having a system from the early 2000s but in a good way.

Gee – I am going to have to fire up my Windows machine just to see that message. The only reason I’ve even kept it around is to play CIV 3 – an old favorite. I also have an Air-book but I don’t really use that much either, to be fair. I live on my iPad and it does probably 95% of what I need – which, being retired- ain’t all that.

Windows still has the corporate world locked it and I can’t see anything changing that for quite a while, but I think that their empire is shrinking, not growing.

Bill Gates does not really care about Windows anymore. Now he is buying agricultural land to grow bugs. He has joined the WEF crowd view!

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
