Labour cowards
Y’all have probably heard of the Gurkhas (probably best remembered for their wicked effective kukri knives). The Gorkha people of Nepal had been hiring themselves out for soldiers since the way back. The Brits discovered them when they fought them during the Nepalese War of 1814-16 and somehow managed to call them Gurkhas. They kick all kinds of butt.
Four original battalions of Gurkhas were formed into the East India Company, and they stayed loyal to the Crown through the Indian Mutiny…and every armed conflict Britain’s been part of ever since. Two hundred thousand of them joined up for Dubya-Dubya Eye-Eye and distinguished the hell out of themselves.
And now thousands of them are set to be deported from Britain. Gurkha veterans have been fighting for the right to live in Britain for a long time — and I don’t pretend to know the whole backstory — but the latest immigration rules released today are fucking evil: a soldier can stay if he’s served 20 years. The rank and file are only allowed to serve 15. Nice.
Oh, an enlisted man can stay if he got crippled in battle, or won a conspicuous decoration. You know, Audi Fucking Murphy is welcome, the rest of you can piss off.
I won’t get into a British immigration rant tonight (don’t-do-it-don’t-do-it-Weasel-don’t-do-it). But a country has to be completely retarded to turn away applicants who have put their lives on the line and, you know, spilled blood in defense of the realm and shit. One of these guys is worth a hundred wastrel immigrants like me.
And don’t get me started on the Pakistani splodey-dopes, Kenyan moochers and Albanian pimps…

Yet more shame.
We have a government of Gramscian retards, who genuinely believe it is better to have who-knows-how-many islamist lunatic Pakistanis in the country than a handful of people you would happily trust either to escort your grannie to the supermarket, or stand beside you in a to-the-death battle.
There is not rope coarse enough with which to hang this vile government.

See, I was about to comment about the apparently open door policy for islamists, but Uncle B beat me to it. Why do those in charge of our two great nations seem so bent on destruction of the nations? Should be a no brainer….people who defend our way of life should be rewarded, those bent on evil- kill them or ship them post haste to whatever hell hole they crawled out of or some other hell hole….which ever is worse. And while I feel some sympathy for those who flood our southern boarder looking for a better life….enter legally, bring a skill, bring money and assimilate.

“Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the two shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth.”
Here’s what I don’t get: Kipling is considered unfashionable, because his views were supposedly racist, yet he showed far more respect — awe, even — for the antecedents of these men than his oh-so-progressive, self-styled moral superiors do now!

well of course! did you not say these guys could kick all kinds of ass? the government has to get all those people out of the way before they start the wholesale slaughter of their own citizens.
sorry, dont mind me, I have my own ideas of what the government thinks these days.

I don’t know what’s worse – that they can happily turn away men who have spilled their blood for this country while letting in the scum of the earth.
Or that at this point in time, when the polls are so low and Labour is universally hated, that no one had the nous to realise that agreeing to this would buy them some GOOD publicity for a change.
Evil, or stupid? I can’t make up my mind any more…

I used to think they were just very, very incompetent, Julia. But it’s gone way beyond a coincidence now. It’s clear to me that they despise us and they’re doing everything they can to fuck us over.
The fact that they treat some of the most loyal and brave soldiers – who’ve fought, suffered, sacrificed and died for this country for over 160 years – like red-headed step-children, whilst simultaneously prostrating themselves to welcome hundreds of thousands of people who not only hate this country and everything it stands for, but are actively trying to destroy it is just further evidence for their pathology.
Ghurkas are like a warrior race. They’re like modern day Spartans. They’re synonymous with pride, bravery and loyalty (to us, a foreign, distant country who most of them have only visited for training). If we have to have further immigration to this small, crowded island, then they should be at the top of the list, not the bottom.

Hopefully, enough people will make their feelings known on this issue.
Perhaps they’ll come to regret opening up this site for their ‘let the plebs have a say’…? 😉

Holy shit – 5,327 signatures. When I looked yesterday it was on 616. If there’s one thing Gordon Brown has demonstrated though, it’s that he doesn’t subscribe to prosaic concepts like the importance of what the electorate want.

But it we can get the number high enough, it might provide some small help for our ailing office goods industry… 😉

Geez, there are only 36,000 Gurkhas at issue here. I totally don’t get the problem, even from a Labour point of view.
As far as I’m concerned, joining a country’s armed forces and serving honorably should be an automatic entry to citizenship (it’s not in the US, either, although I think it gives you a shortcut).

For it’s Bloody Wogs this, an’ Bloody Wogs that, an’ “Hey you, Wog wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for the Gurkhas” when the troops ships on the tide,
The troopships’ on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide. O it’s “Special train for the Gurkhas” when the trooper’s on the tide.

I seem to recall that back during the Vietnam Unpleasantness, Filipinos were fast-tracked to citizenship if they enlisted in the US military; I know they were well-represented as stewards in officer’s country aboard the ships I served on, and later, in the engineering ratings (electrician’s mate seems to have been a popular rating among Filipinos–but that may have been the result of some similar subtle pressure as the one to strike for steward). Scuttlebutt back then was that they were granted citizenship upon honorable discharge, but I don’t know if that is a fact. In any case, they put their lives on the line as much as I did down in sonar control.
Any government (or culture) that does not treat with respect and honor those willing to defend it deserves the ignoble end awaiting it.

Uncle Badger, JuliaM and Gibby have captured the essence of this issue. Oh Lord how people are groaning under the yoke of this catastrophically awful government. When have they been ruled worse? I mean, really? Look back in time, back into the deep time, back beyond the various Georges, back beyond the Stuarts or the Tudors or the Plantagenets, back to when Britain was a hodge-podge collection of warring fiefdoms whose rulers had the life expectancy of a kangaroo in a minefield: when has Britain been so poorly governed? Am I risking hyperbole when I say that Gordon Brown and his cockroach entourage are the single most appalling government that the UK has ever seen? Reason dictates that I must be, but in all honesty I am lost to think of a worse.

From that ‘Newsweek’ article linked by See-Dubya: “One 35-year-old British Muslim told me he’s infuriated by widespread discrimination. An office worker, he says he hasn’t had a promotion in 10 years.”
Well, neither have I, chummie! So what….?

No. Strike that. Cheetos are the only food I have ever literally eaten myself sick on. I was about five. I couldn’t touch them for years, and they still make me feel a little urpee.

As a student of military history — and a descendant of British military who served in India in the 19th Century — I cannot find words for how foul and outrageous this is, particularly (as noted) in light of Britain’s rather lax immigration policies for other groups. This is appalling. ..bruce..

IIRC, Gurkhas are the only non-British troops to have mounted guard at the royal palaces. And now the “government” says they’re not fit to live in your country?

Ah, not to worry then. Can’t say I care (about whether Cheetos and Wotsits are the same) that much any more. I was up all night playing on a bouncy castle with some Mexican pigs. I feel a bit fluey.

Hmmm.
There was some serious talk during the 1980’s of forming a couple Gurkha regiments in the US Army. Never got anywhere but frankly knowing the fighting history of the Gurkhas I certainly wouldn’t mind if a couple dozen Marine recruiters headed over there.
