As regards the outcome of DP 166 – perhaps add a “Rule 9”, as follows:

“In exception to Rule 0, a dead person is eligible, if the person’s death has not been announced, and the player picked that person in the pool active at the time of the person’s death and in all subsequent pools.”

The language may seem rather formal, but the object is to keep the loophole narrow. It preserves the intent of Rule 0, while allowing a legitimate winning pick to be carried forward when the death is obscured.

Based on the Hotty Totty Girl precedent, a dick would then be awarded.

But!

What about rule zero?

What if the guy was already dead when first picked?

The diligence of picking the dead guy throughout however many subsequent Dead Pools does not negate the fact that the guy was already dead when first picked, no matter how , or how long, unconfirmed.

Reports are that Tony Bennett, 96 years old and a long-time selection of the Celebrity Dead Pool, has passed as of this morning.
