Only $339.80* per megabyte!

10mb hard disk

More brain-hurty goodness from my \misc_images directory. I’m not sure when this is, but it references CP/M and Z80, so…1983, maybe? I bet that thing was the size of a cement block.

*Enas Yorl corrects my math, which was out — as usual — by a factor of ten.

Ten whole megabytes!!!!

We could run the entire space programme on that!

Oh, look… here’s that young Gates kid. He says he has a new operating system…

Um, yer math is a bit off – that was $339.8 per megabyte. And actually, that wasn’t a bad price for the time – I thing my parents paid a couple hundred bucks for a 256 kilobyte module upgrade for the Amiga 1000 they bought in the mid-80’s. 10 megs was insane.

OMG, you’re right. Math wasn’t my…etcetera.

They still launch the Space Shuttle with hardware from that era and before, but when it comes to desktop computing (browsing art and some other, less important stuff like paying bills, reading monotone blogs &c.), it just doesn’t cut it. Not only would it be slow and noisy, but with the small storage size, after several minutes of *ee-uhhhh-ee-uhhh-chuka-chuka-chuka* you’d get the dreaded ‘Error downloading 03.mpg from http://www.bigwetasses.com. Out of disk space’ message of doom.Grief.
Enas, you’ve brought a whole shitload of dewy-eyed memories back with your mentioning the Commodore Amiga. My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 6128, but my first real computer was a Commodore Amiga 500+.
‘Scuse me whilst I go and download PSP UAE for my PSP so I can relive the good old days by playing New Zealand Story, Shadow of the Beast, Batman, Supercars (I + II). Joy.

I ‘members getting a PC AT with a 10 Mb drive. I was set for life, storage-wise. Heh.

Not to mention speed.

I came somewhat late to the party. My first had 20 megs. I knew the identity and purpose of every single file and directory on my hard drive.

Oh, how sweet that was!

I wonder if people get into computers in the same breathless way now. Now that they’ll actually do interesting stuff right out of the box.

I can’t be sure, but I think ‘3800 krooni krooni megabaidi’ is Scandiwotsit for ‘$339.80 per megabyte’.

The last sentence – “Kõigile neile allikajanulistele, kes ei saa üle ega ümber algallkast, siis pilt on saadud siit.” tramnslates roughly to:

“For that much money I’d moon my boss and cow orkers and move to England!”

…or maybe that was a dream….?

McGoo! You’re back. The place just doesn’t smell the same without you.

Or maybe that’s Vampira.

Yes! Bon jour! Hola! What’s happenin’? I am back – although I never really left for very long. I was stunningly busy. Still am.

I missed Weasel’s.

Any smell you whiff now is probably my little Toyota Tacoma. I spent some quality time in it recently and it’s the worse for wear. I’d clean it up tomorrow, except I’m off again next thurs-fri for about 1-2 weeks. S.-MO and Austin and Dallas this time.

I forgot the first rule about project management – in work or life: Schedule it. If you do not set a schedule goal, you will NEVER meet it.

Looks like many things were discussed in my absence. I gotta catch up.
