Who’s staying up?

The debate is like 2am my time, but I wouldn’t watch anyway. The two George Bushes finished me for live debate. After the supremely smooth Reagan, I found the stumbly mushmouth Bush style terrifying.

I suffer from painful second hand stage fright.

Though I did enjoy watching Weird Al Gore zoom up to W and demand to know if he supported Dingell-Norwood. He couldn’t have more perfectly made Bush look like a normal guy and himself a DC weirdo. (I looked it up; the actual name was Norwood-Dingell and it was a health insurance bill that failed in the Senate; but Al was so gosh-darned proud of himself for knowing that).

Anyway, I look forward to watching clips over my coffee tomorrow. They better not let me down!

I suffer from painful second hand stage fright. You and me both, Sister. When I was a youngster, there was a show on TV called The Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour. (you can watch on YouTube.)

My oldest sister insisted that we watch it. I could have left the room of course, and maybe I did once or twice. But I covered my face at least once every time we watched the show. I felt such terrible embarrassment for the poor schmucks they let on to “perform” in the name of entertainment. And instead it was horrifying and I remember crying once because it was so bad. And it cured me before I even got started: I never wanted to be on stage for any reason. There were some genuinely good acts, but I always thought that the poor losers were there to make everyone else look better.

Oh yeah. The Debate. I’ll watch, but I bet have to cover my face from time to time.

I plan to watch, although mainly for a secondary reason. I’ve found that it is good to have seen the original/uncut something-or-other when reading/listening to commentary, analyses, and punditry follow-ups.

If we’re lucky, the “debate” will also be entertaining and even emotionally satisfying: when it comes to poor political performers, what I experience isn’t embarrassment for them but rather epicaricacy. (I just learned that word a month or so ago. It’s English for “schadenfreude” but you knew that, right?)

I haven’t decided. I mean I have ALL THIS POPCORN. And beer, beer too.

I usually don’t watch this sort of this as any policy statements are essentially worthless.

However in this case, I am curious to see Kamala Harris. I only know her from my right-wing biased web site viewpoint. Perhaps I’ve been lied to – it’s not only the Dems that lie you know, and every single sound bite tomorrow will have been spun. Tomorrow the winner and loser are in the eye of the reporter.

I know Trump and I’m curious to see how he handles himself, and how he handles her. I would like him calm, quiet, and a bit amused.

For the record, I will vote for Trump although frankly my vote doesn’t matter in Texas.

Oh! And a rip of the hat and a big thank you to Uncle Al for
epicaricacy. I hope it rolls right off my tongue tomorrow and frequently.

Prior to this I avoided all the televised speechy talk because, talk being cheap and all, why bother.

But this has gotta be the most important election for this century.
Trump is, well, Trump, but I don’t see him flipping the US over on it’s back and cutting out vital organs.

Harris is no more going to run this show than Biden did, and I’m pretty sure the shadowy owners want endless wars, a supine populace, and a party that never leaves office to front for them.

Harris gets in and within her term we will be a lot further down the road to eat zee bugs, own nothing, and be told we like it, while we get told what our personal pronouns will be.

Well, everybody said, that was ugly.

Everybody thought it was the most terrible debate ever.

Well, so much for plans. I lasted about ten minutes and found myself getting angrier and angrier. I imagine I had a reason for that but trying to identify it didn’t help. So I went off to read a few Repairman Jack short stories by F. Paul Wilson, and that was the medicine I needed. Nighty-night, my friends.

It looked great when Kamala Harris stood by silently as the moderators argued with President Trump for her. Quiet Kamala Harris was a dud. She even stole the MLK, Jr. cadence and rhythm: “I have a plan.”

ABC can safely be ignored from now on.

Epicaricacy! Finally I learn a new English word that is actually useful. Thanks Uncle Al!

Like Uncle Al, I made perhaps 10 or 15 minutes. To be honest, Kamala was doing much better than I’d hoped when viewed from the perspective of someone who is the typical low-information voter.

Frankly, I don’t think the debate (from what little I watched) changed any minds.

Was she smug or just confident?
Was he arrogant or just being Trump?

If anything Trump may have turned off some undecided voters who have never seen him before. However, I think that such people are merely mythical.

I thought Comma,La was nearly flawless. She should get a Tony for having said her lines so perfectly. Almost like she’d had the chance to memorize them ahead of time. And she never needed fact-checking …

I should add that I had 3oz of Jim Beam “Black” left in a bottle, that I poured into a large glass and added 12oz of 7Up. I nursed that while I stayed tuned in for the whole 90 minutes of debate.

Harris has a terrible voice. She sounds like she has something stuck in her nose. That’s not a set-up line for a joke—she truly sounds stopped up. And she’s had seriously intensive diction classes lately.

Missus Mulroy and her baby sister thought the debate was Wednesday evening. They had planned to watch.
Did I know the debate was Tuesday? Mmmmaybe…
