Pumped

That there is a tiny oil derrick in Nottingham Sherwood Forest. Yes, that Sherwood Forest. Pupster sent me a link to the story about Oklahoma oil jacks coming to the UK during WWII to pump oil out of the forest and feed the insatiable armies of the allies.

He actually found the story on Imgur, but warned me not to go there. I guess it has become woke. I’m not sure. I took his advice and didn’t explore. Though, funny thing, the moment I hit his link, I remembered my login and password. Does that ever happen to you?

I used to hang out at Imgur a lot. I like pitchers.

Anyway, it was a kindness. I discovered today that we might have VISITORS on Thursday afternoon. I have told them they are strictly not allowed in the house, but I figured I’d better clean the bathroom in case someone just can’t.

I’m getting better. The oldest magazine was only 2018.

So – thanks Pups!

Nottingham Forest or Sherwood Forest?

All I get out of “Nottingham Forest” search is pages and pages of a football club.

Anyhoo, don’t be a maskhole. Fight them on the beaches, fight them on the landing grounds, fight them in the fields and in the streets, fight them in the hills, especially fight them in the pubs and taverns, never surrendah!

Imgur is a daily indulgence for me, but you have to wade through a lot of #orangemanbad and #nomaskkills stuff to find anything worth linking.

The Pumpjack of Nottingham?

Don’t try sleeping near one of those, unless you’ve had a good quantity of beer.

Things involving the word “remember” are getting fewer and farther between

Did you know the origin of the word ‘derrick’.
It is from Thomas Derrick who was Public Hangman in England in the early 1600s. To make it easier to haul up the convicted person he devised a topping lift and pulley system. His name was subsequently applied to cranes and oil rigs which used a similar principle.

Imgur is one of the go-to image repositories for Reddit. Once Reddit started its cancellation of wrongthink, I’m sure they had words with Imgur.

Imgur probably got woke too because that is the tech way to ruin wrongfun.

I don’t know which went loony left first, though.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
