Barack Obama, he mad

Did you watch Obama’s Very Cranky Presser yesterday? You should. Go on. I’ll wait.

One of the most inartful pieces of political theater ever. Somehow he took a fairly wise political compromise and turned it into a complete loser for himself.

He could have been just a leeeetle teensy bit gracious to the Republicans and come off as a reasonable man and a tough negotiator. Nope. He was petulant about Republican opposition right from the start, which somehow made it look like they had pwned him utterly.

He could have appealed to his base, explaining that a deal with this congress has to be a bzillion times leftier than any deal with the next congress could possibly be. Nope. He scolded them for being “sanctimonious” and “pure.”

He could have minimized the whole thing. You know, all this bill does is keep things the way the are for now. No big.

Nope. Somehow, he managed to alienate pretty much everybody, and look like a tooth-gritting, vein-throbbing lunkhead doing it.

I don’t get who he was trying to appeal to. “The American people” he kept invoking — presumably minus the Republican part of the American people and the leftmost section of the Democrat part of the American people. Which leaves — oh, I dunno — maybe a third of the actual American people?

President Sooper Genius not look so smart these days.

And if you don’t recognize the image I’m riffing on, you are an utter, utter Philistine. It’s this famous shot from the always spooky Diane Arbus. After she cut her wrists in the bath in 1971, there were persistent rumors that she had set up a camera on a tripod to film her own death.

Holy crap. My co-worker said I ruined his lunch when he looked over as I perused the Diane Arbus gallery. I got some free chili outta it. 🙂

The gallery looks interesting. Unfortunately it’s written in defective JavaScript, and demme if I’ll load&run Exploder just to look at depressing pictures.

Appropriate image. The Repubs took his lunch money, and now the Dems want to give him an atomic wedgie. It’s tough being the smartest guy in the room sometimes.

Well, I’m accustomed to hanging with artards, after all. Where Arbus is legend. Her parents owned Russek’s, the big 5th Ave department store.

Her husband was Alan Arbus, the dude who played the pshrink on M*A*S*H. “Was” as in they got divorced. He’s still alive but very old.

Okay, weren’t those girls on the very first page in the movie, The Shining? If not there, it was some horror flick.
Then they got their own action figures by playing Sherri and Terri on the Simpsons.

Speaking to the GOP being so dastardly to the boy king and his leftard flying monkeys, for craps sake, the GOP do NOT have the power to do anything. The democrats are the ones ultimately responsible. They are the ones with the super majority. GAHHHHH

Comment from Ric Locke

Yah, p&b, they have a super-majority… for now.

Later this month a lot of them have to go home, and once they’re home they have to sleep sometimes. Makes ’em a trifle cautious, it does. This is a good thing.

A lot of them, in the senate, are up for reelection ’12.

It is annoying as hell that they and their Pravda media, are so blatantly lying and noone blinks an eye. They have their dumbassed constituents pegged.

What’s next in the series? Lad With Bazooka Near Train?

I usually have no problem recognize supposedly “iconic” images, but I’ve never seen this one before, or heard of the photographer (who seems to be the Sylvia Plath of the photography world). And after seeing that gallery, I’ll take your Philistine epithet with extremely good grace.

Hate to go OT and all, but it’s been reported that Aretha Franklin is stricken with pancreatic cancer. At her age and all, that’s a death sentence. What a great talent and what a great lady. We’ll not see her like again.

Yes, I knew about her and her photography. I even picked her ex in one round of Dead Pool.

However, I would never have thought to superimpose Obama’s head into that picture. Holy moley, that’s so appropriate.

Brava, Miz Weasel!

It’s almost always a death sentence, Mike C. Bastard got my mother. It’s evil, but it’s quick.

Though I know someone who reckons his sister was cured. They scooped her out like a melon and basically replaced all her innards.

I never like to tell an artist what to draw, but how about OM-bama as a marionette, with the strings being pulled by a LEERING DICK CHENEY?

I’m trying to foment violent from the commies and hip[pies here in Eugene. I think that’ll do it.

Yeah, Bob.

They want to soak the rich. So their absolutely non-negotiable, beat the floor with their widdle fists, hold their breath ’til they turn blue demand is —

Wait for it —

A massive subsidy for Warren Buffett!

Some form of insanity is the only explanation. Maybe the people who were on about fluoridating the water were right?

Saying “no” to Obama isn’t opposition. It’s lèse majesté. L’État, c’est moi, thinks our latter-day Sun King.

I seem to recall some semi-biopic of Arbus with Nicole Kidman playing her.

In order to make a political speech to play to someone, you have to think they are important. Obama only plays to himself. Most politicians do it in their room with a drink in their hand and get over it. He did his on national TV

For your Congress contest from early November, the end is near:

Although maybe not, since Joe Miller’s lawsuit is still being heard and I believe the Federal injunction against certifying that election is still valid. Unless you want to count that as GOP either way. But Murkowski is AT BEST a RINO. And may be even more Dem than that if she is certified as the winner. But the GOP will be glad to give her seniority anyway. Because that’s just how they are…

Comment from S. Weasel
Time: December 9, 2010, 7:29 pm

I was going to ask, Mark. I don’t hold out much hope for Miller’s suit…and, yeah, RINO-y as she is, I think Murky’s going to caucus with the red suits, isn’t she?

So that’s +63 in the House and…? in the Senate?

Comment from Mark Matis

election.townhall.com sez:
Senate Balance of Power
Democrat 51
Republican 46
with 2 Independents who will caucus Democrat. Of course, if she wins Murkowski will caucus Republican but vote Democrat. And don’t rule out Miller quite yet. The Federal judge saw enough to issue his injunction before even hearing the case. Whilst the GOP spin is as expected (they never saw a RINO they didn’t love), that race is far from over.

Senate.gov currently shows:
Majority Party: Democrat (57 seats)
Minority Party: Republican (41 seats)
Other Parties: 1 Independent; 1 Independent Democrat
Total Seats: 100
Note: Senator Arlen Specter was reelected in 2004 as a Republican, and became a Democrat on April 30, 2009. Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut was reelected in 2006 as an independent candidate, and became an Independent Democrat. Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont was elected in 2006 as an Independent.

That count appears to be from BEFORE the recent swearing in of Mark Kirk from Illinois who is nominally a Republican, and as a result is probably what you should use. Actual Senate currently is 56 Democrat, 42 Republican, and 2 Independent when you count them by name, but again THAT includes Kirk who was elected this November.

“Somehow, he managed to alienate pretty much everybody, and look like a tooth-gritting, vein-throbbing lunkhead doing it.”

But a wounded beast is still dangerous. As poor Velma found out…

I wonder if the Democrats are going to cling to ‘Bush!!!’ as long as our left are going to cling to ‘Thatcher!!!’
