It is finished.

bonfire

Well, there you go. Migrated.

The deal was, I had two separate web hosting accounts. I started the blog on BlueHost and, when they hit a rough patch performance-wise, I opened another web hosting account at Hosting Matters to see if it was any better. It was, but I had pre-paid BlueHost for something like five years in advance.

When that expired, the procrastination began.

Anyway, it’s all with Hosting Matters now (except a few of my domain registrations) and excellent customer service they have, too. Mucho recommendo.

And no, I don’t have a bunch of fascinating websites out there (I should say, a bunch of OTHER fascinating websites). I’ve got a few bits I host for other people, and some domain names I registered and didn’t ever do much with.

The picture is from one of the fêtes this weekend. It was in aid of their local Bonfire Society, hence the scary ladies. Every local society has a costume, like Mardi Gras krewes. Trust me, this shit looks spookier by the light of burning stuff.

We enjoyed this one very much, but there’s not much to report.

Oh, I got lit up on warm beer and entered the axe-throwing competition. I didn’t win, but the moderator said I was “slightly above average”, which I regard as V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!!

So, back in business. The only thing that got lost in transition is, I saw a real live weasel cross the road on Midsummer’s Day!

You clearly put all the furniture put back exactly where it was, thanks! I hate barking my shins and stubbing my toes in the dark.

I have to be careful, because Stoaty – who while not given to grinding an ax – is apparently quite willing to hurl one!

I thought European weasels were non-migratory? Or was that unladen swallows?

The axe throwing bit? It’s true.

I have pictures…

Yesterday, my wreck of a ruin of an obsolete OS/Browser combo tolt me that my security settings would not allow me to download that file. (When I came to read yesterday’s post)

I have no clue what security settings that would be, and I’m here today, now, with the exact same thing I had yesterday.

I have given up trying to understand computers.

It’s all magic. and demons

Pretty much the same here. Hosting Matters rocks…nice folks. I’ve been with them since 2002 and I’ve never had a migration blip. I still chuckle when thinking about Stacy talking me off the WP install ledge.

Yes! I love Hosting Matters. I switched over to them some years ago and have never regretted it. And Annette and Stacy put up with (and quickly respond to) my middle-of-the-night “Does this mean something?” e-mails when I’m parsing through my server notifications. Also, they have the world’s best spam blocking system for your incoming e-mail. Two thumbs up!

So how’s BREXIT going?

My local news covered the BREXIT with 4 stories:
1. Its pouring rain all over the UK, with a video of women in “wellies” wading thru yellowish water in what seems to be an eatery. The rain will impact the vote.
2. A report of ballot cheating by erasing LEAVE votes, with a video of ONE woman handing out pens. She must have a ton of pens!
3. A report on why the Brexit will fail, with a video of the PM shaking the hands of a ton of people, everyone smiling.
4. A report that Nigel Farage skipped the last debate, thus ruining all chances for a Brexit. No video, but a very, very goofy photo of Farage grinning like a fool.

I’m not optimistic.

Axe throwing is a hoot.

I’m not optimistic either, for all kinds of reasons. In reverse order:

1. Every photo of Farage is goofy. It’s partly because he looks goofy, it’s partly because…Farage. Yes, he skipped the last debate at the last moment. It may have been a very smart thing — it was going to be a dogpile.

2. Yeah, it probably will fail. People will almost always opt for the status quo if their lives don’t suck enough.

3. Yes, rumors went around about pencil votes being erased. The election officials even called our local polling place to warn them about the rumor. Uncle B voted in pencil, though — real hard, making a dent in the paper.

4. Yes, it’s pouring rain. I wore wellies to work today. Sadly, turnout has apparently been huge. High turnout is bad news for Brexit, probably.

Reports all over of people lined up outside the polling places at 7am.

Badger: “Honey, are you sure you can throw throw that ax while intoxicated?”

Stoaty: “Certainly not! Axes don’t drink!”
