Ummm…

I have to clean some old wax seals for work. It’s tiny, fiddly work. “Woot!” thinks I, “my chance buy some new tiny, fiddly tools!”

Somewhere around here, I’ve got a student dissection kit (eh, you know me…I never dissected anything more sentient than fridge mold. I just love me some weenus little tools). Can’t find it, but they’re cheap enough.

Holy shit, my people, do not be searching for surgical instruments on eBay. Because they’re there.

Cat spay kits. Dental implant bone grafting instruments. Urethral dilators.

Who is buying this shit? And why? Don’t tell me clinics and med schools are buying their instruments used on eBay. Are they?

p.s. Don’t actually click those links. I’m just giving my bona fides.

p.p.s. The collection in the picture this one. I might actually bid on this one if it doesn’t go too high. Some of those instruments look pretty useful (and some of them are an enigma wrapped in a cringe).

Interesting.
What kind of students did you dissect?
Social sciences or STEM majors?

Sheesh!
That one piece in the middle there looks like the “ball” (femoral head) of the “ball and socket” hip joint. Didn’t see a saw, though.

On another tangent, #41 (H. W. Bush) seems to be “responding” to treatment for a “blood infection.” I mean, really, how often have you heard or read this and then BOOM! the patient is toes up and rigid?

Now I’m worried that Stoaty will develop some life threatening illness and the UK will not let her leave the coutry for treatment. 🙁

@ExpressoBold – My Uncle contracted MRSA, and fought back until everyone thought he would pull out of it, but crashed and passed away a day later.

that is, in fact, the femoral head of a replacement hip joint. the socket portion is missing and i believe they usually have teflon or some other coating to prevent abrasion. not sure where the drill that chuck key fits into is….. and the really wierd part is I have a lot of these in my toolbox. theyre great for pulling dropped hardware out of hard to reach spots in airplanes.

Looking at the dental instruments, looks like the one you linked, and some of the others, would be great for picking carbon out of an M-16.

I LOVE catalogs like American Science and Surplus. When I worked as a draftsman, we got the most wonderful catalogs for surveying, forestry, engineering, aviation, hydrogeology, etc. I never subscribed to ladies magazines—I just carried home the catalogs from work. Later on when we home-schooled our son, I subscribed to Edmund Scientific, which my son considered a textbook! He went on to get degrees in biology and cartography 🙂

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
