And that’s when I hit the X in the upper right corner

Calls for Penny Lane to be renamed. Seems it was named after slave trader James Penny. Mind you, the calls weren’t new today, but new today is the fact it may be done on the fly, without public consultation.

They’re tearing things down and rubbing out names all over Britain today. Don’t go to Twitter right now; it will break your heart.

And when they’re done, they’ll have accomplished, what exactly?

I am so enjoying our little NAZI wannabees and their collective burning of history that ‘offends’ them.

Penny Lane, I thought it was a Beatles tune.

Over on this side, the nihilists and commie thugs want to eradicate memorials to Thomas Jefferson, a man who did more than anyone else during the Revolutionary Era to establish a society based on, and respectful of, individual human rights. He was born into a society with slavery, and strove to instill the belief that all men are created equal in the American system.

Yes. This is heartbreaking and deeply angering.

Pop-up thought: In Austrian School economics, a central praxiological tenet is that of time preference, the higher value of a beneficial result sooner rather than later.

The “nihilists and commie thugs” I just mentioned don’t seem to grasp the concept at all, not even recognizing the possibility of any future benefit because they want everything right damned now!

Aye, there’s blood in the water and they’re swarming like piranhas in a feeding frenzy. They’ll not stop until every scrap is off the bone. They’ve been praying, pushing, and training for this day for a looong time with LOT$ of money backing them. And I’m not just talking about “antifa” – there’s a shipload of shifty orgs with hands in this. They’ve greatly upgraded techniques and technologies and we’re responding like it’s still the 1960’s.

These aren’t your parent’s hippies and they want nothing to do with peace or love.

I’m off to buy a Hawaiian shirt. Because it’s The Shirting Times again it seems.

As a young man, I recall comedian David Frye doing Nixon impersonations.
He does a meeting between Nixon and a radical, probably Abby Hoffman, but I don’t remember exactly.
Assume it’s Hoffman – who declares “we want to tear down the system man!”
And Nixon asks what they’ll do then, to which Hoffman replies, “I don’t know man, maybe sit around and groove on the rubble.”

And here we are.

I’m not one much for the whole ‘privilege’ concept, but perhaps I’ve sold aspects of it short. These little asshats just assume by nature all people are good, and things will work out by, as we used to say in the coding world on projects not well thought out, PFM. The first word is Pure, the last word is Magic and you can guess the middle one.

A lot of the spoiled little brats come from privilege and can’t conceive of how complicated a functioning society is and just assume they can recraft 4000 years of learning what works and what doesn’t in a few months to create a new Unicorn land full of rainbows and wonder.
You know, like your average 4 year old.

And there ARE others, who intend to take over this society, and given the opportunity will take control of it and show the privileged “useful idiots” how it works. The same way Lenin and Stalin did with their own useful idiots after the revolution.

Golgafrincham Ark Fleet Ship B has officially “landed”.

I quit twitter about two months ago. I had quit way before, but decided to jump back in about two months ago. After about 3 days, I quit again – permanently this time.

I’ve removed ALL news links from my browser – Ace Of Spades, Hot Air, Drudge Report, Fox News. Pretty much Facebook, sweasel, and StareCat are all that is left that might be slightly ‘newsy’. I’ve unfriended anyone who constantly spews venom. I just don’t need the aggravation.

I’ve also deleted all of the ‘screaming head’ channels on YouTube. Fox News, Tim Pool, Sargon … If I see anything come up with current news I unsubscribe. If I wasn’t subscribed, I click “Don’t Recommend This Channel”. Now all I get are old episodes of MST3K, Mustie1 wrenching shite, Robert Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke audiobooks, and Red Letter Media.

If anything really important should come up, my wife will bring it to my attention. Like if the Taal Volcano should decide to act up again. THAT is real news, not the nonsense that the media and the shrieking harpies on the internet attempt to shove down everyone’s throats.

I’m on day three. This is as tough as when I quit smoking. And when I quit caffeine. It’s weird, but there a physical aspect to it – I was angry, irritable, stressed out before. Now I’m jumpy, like I need a cig or a cuppa joe. And I’ll wander around and end up in front of the computer … fiddling with the keyboard and mouse … considering turning it on … before I push away and actively find something else to do.

But I have to tell ya – doing a digital detox and clearing my head of the daily bullshite on the internet is really starting to make me feel better. I’m starting to sleep better, I can say that at least.

@Timothy – since I no longer ‘work’, I no longer sit at the keyboard all day.

and I no longer read the news as much.
There’s a lot of screaming, and panic, on both sides of the aisle. It’s not the end of the world, the Mongol hoards aren’t going to win, the Visigoths aren’t going to take over the North American continent just because a couple square blocks of Seattle ‘has fallen’.

Eventually the looters will run out of loot, and the looties run out of patience and restraint. There will be a reordering, and the mooching class will go back to mooching and the pandering class will go back to pandering to the mooching class.

It’s sad, and frustrating, but I know I’m in a better frame of mind since I spend less time reading about the figurative NAZIs overrunning figurative Poland and France.

These rag tag wannabe revolutionaries can’t feed themselves, and the country side is a bad place for a city folk to come wandering looking to cause trouble.

@durned – yeah, I’ve been effectively retired for the past 13 years, since I had my series of brain stem strokes at age 47. I still do programming (as a hobby) and other stuff, but I would have my tablet always on and I would scan the news and have screaming head YouTube videos on all day as background noise while I puttered around.

What a bad habit. What a mistake.

Luckily I’m here in Metro Manila, so no one talks about the US news here. It’s either news about waiting for Taal Volcano to blow it’s top again, or the effects of the chinese lung rot quarantine, or anything about Duterte. Or the latest Korean dramas and pop-stars. So I can pretty much just ignore everything now, since I’ve unplugged the lunacy. I only have to really start worrying if the house starts rumbling and I get volcanic ash on my roof.

If the US really is going to hell … what was I getting so upset about? I’m out of the workforce so I don’t have to worry about being dragged into HR and having my career torpedoed because of something stupid I said. And as long as I continue to get my disability benefits and the US/Peso exchange rate doesn’t go into a free-fall and cut my benefits and savings in half, I’ll be okay. Ugh. Yeah, _those_ are real world issues to worry about and not all of the nonsense that the left/media/usual idiots try to drill into our skulls.

So – enjoy _your_ retirement, and do fun and interesting things with your time. And if you do, take video and post it to YouTube (just don’t get political, please). Because I’m running out of stuff to watch *grin*

That first “H” in my last name stands for a direct line to the same “H” as one of my first American ancestors. He was a convict—an Englishman—bought from the Crown by a slaver, transported on a slave ship to the Virginia colony, sold to a plantation, and worked until his slave-bond was satisfied. A few years after that, he fought for the American Revolution. He married the daughter of a Lee plantation indentured servant, and had they had one daughter and eleven sons.

As near as I can tell from studying my genealogy, I can’t find that any of my “H” ancestors ever owned black slaves, though my third “H” great-grandfather fought for the Confederacy (Company D, Alabama 3rd Infantry Regiment). However, three of my ancestor families did own slaves; I’ve read the names of those men and women (and children) in family wills.

I can’t change my family history, and I don’t want it wiped out as though it had never happened. So I don’t understand the zeal to destroy the the first half of the history of Blacks in America. Will tearing down a big monument erase the history? Will destroying the memory of Washington and Jefferson make it all better? Because Washington’s name is on a million things in this country.
