Not nice.

Someone had to cancel an appointment with me today because a person was hit and killed by a train and all traffic was halted. You couldn’t even drive over the crossing at the nearest station.

Probably a mess.

The article doesn’t say, but it was likely a suicide. Death by train is a surprisingly common method here. They don’t have the option of a revolver and decanter of brandy.

The picture is Ashford International Station where the train was headed. Because all traffic in our area is routed through Ashford. Which isn’t international any more. And is a dump.

We catch a disease every time we go to Ashford.

Edit to add: I’ve just read this on Quora “If you type ‘illuminati’ backwards, followed by ‘.com’ as a URL, you will be directed to the US government’s national security page.” I tried it and itanimulli.com does indeed take you to the NSA.

Headline says: Person dies after being struck by train

I guess I’m in a morbid mood today because I couldn’t help but think that if one is going to commit suicide-by-train it would be preferable to die as you’re being struck rather than after.

I feel sorry not only for the family of the deceased but also very sorry for the emergency people who had to handle the aftermath. Maybe except for the undertaker as there’s not much work to be done for a closed casket funeral: chuck all the bits into the box and screw the lid down tight.

We had a neighbor who committed suicide by train way back when I was about 14.

I found the official death certificate online.

It’s a painful way to go, at least initially.

Terrible thing to do to the train driver, too. And there still is one, even if everything is automated.

A FOAF was the son of an undertaker and was sent out once with a basket to collect bits off the tracks.

I’m happy to say, in the UK there are no open casket funerals. Mostly cremations, and burials are all closed casket. I’m afraid the US is unique for that repulsive practice, as far as I know.

Well it beats locking yourself, naked, in a duffel bag, and commiting suicide by suffocation…

We have a new high speed train serving Miami to the Orlando airport which, sadly, has become a favorite way to off oneself. A friend of mine is a deputy sheriff. He says the smart ones lay their neck across one rail. Gruesome but very quick.

Having been in the field, I really liked the Illuminati comment.

“In God we trust, all others we monitor.”

Well, there’s always getting naked and shooting yourself in the back at Fort Marcy state park, or hanging yourself with an electrical cord while shooting yourself with a shotgun in the chest…and then disposing of the shotgun.

Thing about a train is it’s a firm commitment, it ain’t gonna stop, nor will it swerve to avoid you, and the distance to safety, should you have second thoughts, is probably beyond reach unless you’re an Olympic broad jumper type.

Rough on the poor driver, the family, the cleanup crew.

Sad.

“It’s a painful way to go, at least initially.”

I’m not an expert but I can pretend to be on the internet…

I saw a video about the implosion of the Titan, that private sub diving on the Titanic, and they said it takes 150 milliseconds for pain signals to reach your brain via the nervous system, and the implosion most likely took 20 milliseconds so they were probably dead before they knew what hit them.

I’d imagine, all things being equal, that being hit by several hundred tons of speeding metal might have the same effect and bar the initial ‘here it comes’ feeling it’s probably lights out.

Terrible all around though no matter how quick it might be.

Turns out, it was a woman of about 60. Nobody’s quite sure what happened.

Ah, I guess you haven’t discovered that Quora has been hollowed out by the wokies and is effectively an un-parrot.

I’ve heard that, Jon. Actually, I heard it was being hollowed out by AI.

Somehow the stories they feed me are still interesting. I never go to the top of the site or whatever you’re supposed to interact with. I only click links in their emails that appear to be tailored for me.
