And how did they ID him from a DNA match? Why was his DNA in a database if he had no previous run-ins with Law Enforcement (that’s CODIS)? Or did he have to provide it for a job and it wound up in some national database accessible by Law Enforcement?

@OldFert — Elsewhere I read that they did the initial tracking based on the rifle; they found the purchaser was the killer kid’s father. That seems a bit odd since any fed gun registration data is prohibited by law, and for the feds to violate the law is simply unthinkable. I mean, everything would simply descend into chaos and anarchy otherwise.

First, let me note that I spent 28 years as a Peace Officer, and yes I have done a couple of protection assignments. Without overloading you:

1) The secure zone viewed from above had a large wedge in it that meant that the building Crooks used was both above the event site, had a clear shot, and was not secured.

2) A half hour before the shooting Crooks was not only seen on the roof with his rifle, a picture was taken of him proned out on the roof holding the rifle in firing position. This picture was forwarded up the chain of command . . . and nothing was done.
