Occasionally, look down

I wonder how many times I’ve walked past this little plaque. It’s not a route I take every day, but I’ve walked it often enough. It’s at ankle height on a weedy sidewalk.

I did not know that memorial plaque and dental plaque were spelled the same. I find this disturbing. I was sure one had a ‘c’ in it.

Anyway, they used to say in geocaching, “occasionally, look up” as some of the sneakiest hides were hauled up over head.

Stoaty, you may be subconsciously thinking of Spanish or Portuguese. In those languages, that’s a placa.

Placard. A word rarely used these days. That’s why you had a “c” stuck in your brain. I used to paint placards—also called showcards, for my church and groups in town. Lettering with a brush is forgiving. Chisel-tipped markers are not. Uncials are easy with a foam brush, too. Big letters especially.

That’s quite nice I think.

I’m going to carve mine into the hundred year old post oak next to the house in East Texas, with a chainsaw 😁

Durnedyankee 19** -20**, because we’re doing ashes and we ain’t from these parts and I doubt the line will go on any further here in Texas, if at all. And I’m not going back to vote for “that” party in Massachusetts after I’m gone.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
