“Mine didn’t look like the ones in the picture”

That’s pretty much every recipe I try. Probably because I’m sloppy with measurements (or recipe writers are lying liars who lie).

Today it was buttery stovetop biscuits. They didn’t rise properly. Maybe my baking powder has gone off (it does). They tasted good, so I’m calling it a win.

You literally fry them on the stovetop, which is also a win – I hate faffing around with our oven.

Next up: homemade tabasco sauce. Uncle B brought in an enormous harvest of hot peppers this afternoon. Last year, I froze them. Year before, I dried them.

Oooooo…or I could add garlic and make sriracha!

Don’t forget now…back here tomorrow for Dead Pool 190! DO IT!

Stove-top biscuits?? Wouldn’t those be ‘Crumpets’?

You had me at buttermilk. I love anything made with buttermilk—and I’m one of those who always drinks the first glass of buttermilk from a new carton. I’ll give this recipe a try because JavaMan loves biscuits.

I didn’t have any buttermilk. I suppose you can get it here, but I’ve never seen it. I used plain yoghurt.

“an enormous harvest of hot peppers…”

What kind? Banana, jalapeno, serrano, scotch bonnet, carolina reaper?

If you’re going to be making fermented hot sauce, one great tip I picked up for helping keep the minced peppers under the brine is to buy a cheap little french press coffeemaker. That little perforated strainer does the trick. It keeps the mash down and prevents any little bits of veg from floating up, touching air, and getting moldy and ruining the whole batch.

also- if you subbed yogurt for buttermilk, that might be the reason for the lack of rise. You might have needed a little more acidity to make those bubbles. Maybe try again with a few drops of vinegar in there.

My baking adventures often resemble a snake game – things start out straight, then quickly devolve into chaos. I’m with you on the stovetop biscuit win; convenience is key. Expired baking powder is definitely a culprit. Homemade Tabasco sounds amazing! https://snakegame.onl
